Well, Ramsey is dead and it's about time! Pretty good episode. But it is looking like the women are going to rule the world! Sansa is now Wardeness of the North both due to being Ned Stark's only surviving child (as far as anyone knows) and being Ramsey's widow. Dany is subduing the eastern continent and will soon move to take Westeros. Theon's sister will be queen of the Iron Islands and even Dorne seem to be in the hands of a group of women. Well, they can't do a worse job than the men! I am sort of wondering why Dany is bothering to keep Tyrion around--he's been of no use to her at all so far. |

Tyrion always needs time to prepare. He plays the useless character to bide for time. |

Say it with Winston, now: Jon Snow is an idiot. Because he is. Ron |
ScottWashburn | 20 Jun 2016 5:53 a.m. PST |
Yes, Jon is no general. And why-oh-why didn't anyone think to provide the giant with a CLUB? A nice 15-foot long tree trunk would have let him deal with the Bolton spearmen like Sauron in the opening battle in Fellowship of the Ring :) |
Winston Smith | 20 Jun 2016 6:01 a.m. PST |
Let's admit this. Last week Arya was no genius either. |
138SquadronRAF | 20 Jun 2016 6:47 a.m. PST |
And yet rather than the Battle of Cannae we get the same deus ex machina as we had three time is a row with battles now. Bolton out thought Jon Snow and almost out fought him. |
ScottWashburn | 20 Jun 2016 7:20 a.m. PST |
Of course if Rikon (sp?) had just had the presence of mind to DODGE from side to side a little, he could have gotten away and Jon wouldn't have wrecked all their plans by leading a mad charge. |
Winston Smith | 20 Jun 2016 7:57 a.m. PST |
As mentioned in another thread, EAGLES. Apparently Martin has as little a mind about battles as does Tolkien. Or maybe we can blame D&D for that. But at least having a wedge of Knights smash into the rear of a pavise and pile formation looked just like we thought it should. |

Having a well thought out battle plan is only for Bad Guys. Impetuously charging is what heroes do. |

Hey 138 Squadron! I called the deus ex machina last week! "At the moment I'm wondering how many times the "turning up at the last minute" device is going to be worked into the rest of the plot. We have had it at the Blackwater, at the attack on Castle Black, we are all expecting it this week and you would be mad to bet against it in the last and final great battle we all assume will come against the Walkers. Then of course we had the Dragon rescue at the fighting Pit episode and a Dany saves the day bit hanging over from this week, which looks like barbecued Slavers waiting to happen." Knights of the Vale, what a surprise! Not! Also, Holy Flying Flammenwerfers Batman! |

Actually are any of the Starks all that bright? Ned, tells Cerci what he knows about her and gets killed. Rob, marries some one who gave him no political or military support, and dies. Bran climbs up huge towers and eventually falls, with a push. Sansa has never shone much of anything until maybe last night. Arya, like John said earlier. Not all that cunning. Jon, charges a whole line of archers all by himself. Really, how did this family rule the North of centuries? |
Inkpaduta | 20 Jun 2016 11:08 a.m. PST |
Oh and plus, Rickon runs straight ahead without dodging or going from side to side. Nope, straight ahead and dies. What a proud strong family. |
138SquadronRAF | 20 Jun 2016 11:37 a.m. PST |
Arya, like John said earlier. Not all that cunning. She'd have been much better off simply following the teachings of the House of Black and White and becoming a loyal servant of the Many-Faced God. Oh and plus, Rickon runs straight ahead without dodging or going from side to side. Nope, straight ahead and dies. After the first arrow you'd think he'd got the message. |

I am surprised at how many of the on line GoT "experts" are on line with the "Jon is kind of dumb" meme. I'd love to play poker with him. I wonder if D&D will be as surprised by this as they were by the outrage over the variously rapes on the show. Jamie and Cersei reaction blindsided them, as did Sansa's. Maybe… Maybe D&D aren't as smart as they think they are. |

Watching Jon Snow gasping for breath in the pile of bodies was pretty cool. My question is, what poor schmucks did Ramsey round up to burn for the pre-battle decorations? |
DontFearDareaper | 20 Jun 2016 8:24 p.m. PST |
…what poor schmucks did Ramsey round up to burn for the pre-battle decorations? It doesn't take much to get on Ramsey's bad side. I'm sure he kept a steady supply of prisoners and hostages taken from houses loyal to the Starks or just soldiers that didn't pass inspection that morning…. |
Trajanus | 21 Jun 2016 2:43 a.m. PST |
Never having read the books myself, does anyone know if in Songs of Ice and Fire lore is there a SAM system for Dragons? You know, like Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit. Only asking because, surely if Dany gets "boots on the ground" (or hooves) in Westeros, then surely this is all over and the storyline just meanders to the end of Series 7/8 while the Winged Ones flap around doing their thing? |
ScottWashburn | 21 Jun 2016 4:05 a.m. PST |
Well, there IS the Night King and all the White Walkers to deal with. I imagine Dany will get drawn into the fight against them and the dragons will be crucial. |
KTravlos | 21 Jun 2016 4:12 a.m. PST |
there is no SAM. Pretty much if you have Dragons you are very powerful. No idea how Dorne held out. |
Trajanus | 21 Jun 2016 7:50 a.m. PST |
Well I kind of expected that. So as I thought. Dany saves the remains of Westeros in the nick of time and all that's left is to see if she marries Jon or Yara! |
Inkpaduta | 21 Jun 2016 11:33 a.m. PST |
She can't marry Jon as he is very likely her cousin from brother R and Ned's sister. Remember they are not Lannisters. |
KeithRK | 21 Jun 2016 1:26 p.m. PST |
My question is, what poor schmucks did Ramsey round up to burn for the pre-battle decorations? He asked for volunteers? Actually those were range and wind markers for the archers. They would also let Ramsay know when Rickon would be out of range and when Jon would be in range. |
Trajanus | 21 Jun 2016 3:31 p.m. PST |
Can't marry her cousin! Come on, the royal families of Europe have been doing it for centuries. Not just in the distant past, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were first cousins! I think it could be Yara, definitely some vibes going on there, now that would make for a different ending! |
Trajanus | 21 Jun 2016 3:35 p.m. PST |
OK Team, now Ramsey is dogmeat, who's top of the hit list? Seems the Jon Snow Resurrection Agency is likely to be the recipient of a few harsh words from Davos next week, after that? I'm thinking Walder Frey – Any takers? |
Gunfreak | 21 Jun 2016 3:46 p.m. PST |
How come the starks and Boltons used to be allies? I don't see ned being pals with people who have flayed people on their banner. |
Trajanus | 22 Jun 2016 9:50 a.m. PST |
No idea how Dorne held out. From what I can make out they didn't fight pitched battles in that age but stopped the invasion by the Targaryens through Guerrilla warfare. Thereby not giving the Dragons a major target. No idea why they just didn't level Sunspear though! |
ScottWashburn | 22 Jun 2016 10:21 a.m. PST |
By the time of the Mad King, the dragons were only the size of cats. Or so Tyrion said. |
Earl of the North | 22 Jun 2016 1:37 p.m. PST |
How come the starks and Boltons used to be allies? I don't see ned being pals with people who have flayed people on their banner. The Starks won control of the North (the Boltons were apparently their main enemy) and became King's of the North before the Targaryen conquest…..really by the time of the books/series the Starks have been in control of the North for a long time and the Boltons are sworn to House Stark, like all the other minor houses of the North. |
