I was actually surprised. I am not a big fan of the super-robot genre of Japanese anime, and that had kept me away from this OVA. Boy was I wrong.

It ended up being a good old hot blooded boy adventure, like a good Jules Verne novel. Over the top epic indeed, with a excellent soundtrack and a bevy of fun characters. I wish they animated "Siege of Babel".

Highly recommended.

KTravlos I'm a fan of Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot as I know it by.

I saw it back in the early 80's on TV along with Ultraman and other shows on local television.

I have a handful of small figures from the show as well.

Hi Captain, I actually had no idea of the original material, I looked into it after watching the OVA (When the Earth Stood Still).

The series ran for a year 1967-68(26 episodes)and it was a decent show and the Monsters looked okay the movie was called Voyage into Space but it might've had other names.

I also liked the main Robot as well I've also seen some of the original Japanese episodes and for myself I prefer the Japanese episodes.

My all time favorite Japanese show is the ANIME classic Space Battleship Yamato aka StarBlazers.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. Nothing to touch it.

Giant Robo: the Animation is a real treat, as are other projects that Yasuhiro Imagawa worked on (Getter Robo Armageddon, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Shin Mazinger Z Impact, etc.)
