So 30 years ago there was a huge race war that used yp all Allanon's magic forcing him to hibernate to recharge.
In those 30 years magic is completely forgotten and relegated to MYTH?
I dont buy it.

Zyphyr08 Jan 2016 3:41 p.m. PST

He was pretty much the only person who could use magic already and had been for a few centuries if memory serves… It has been about 30 years since I read it.

Yeah, but those are METRIC years, so they're like, um, different from REAL years…

or somesuch nonsense.

Or they have short memories.

Or they are as sharp as these guys:

"Kids today" 30 years is a Loooong time (if you are 19).

I'll watch because I like the Allanon character, but sheesh, Elves forgetting Magic?

According to the dialogue "all the magic died."
Also, the only people currently shown as "not believing in magic," are all under 30, or even quite simply teenagers, and what teenager EVER believed any claims made about the world before they were born, especially by "old dudes" (that is, anyone over 35)?
It's like trying to convince a teenager that in 1986, phones were all attached to a wall, and if you wanted to call somebody while away from home you had to find one of those phones and drop a quarter into it. Oh, and the coolest thing in the world for music was a Sony Walkman cassette player. Plus, you had to go to a store to buy music. ("What's a cassette?")

Heck, there are people today who have no clue about the Cold War and what it was about, or why anybody would be worried about nuclear weapons, or that Great Britain fought a war with Argentina, or that the US invaded Grenada ("Where?"), or why the Soviet Union was called "The Evil Empire", or why the US would spy on Russia (or vice versa), or that "Star Wars" once meant something else besides just a movie franchise, or…
… in any case, a lot can be forgotten by a lot of people in thirty years, especially in a culture where the only methods for long-distance, long-term communication are, respectively, books and the memories of "old dudes."

Even 30 years ago in the book, only a few used magic. That was Allanon and a couple of others. I might be wrong it was about 30 years ago when I last read the book.

During or just before the war that took place in the Sword of Shannara the evil Druid Brona if I recall correctly killed off every Druid at their castle called Pannora. So yes Allanon was the only Druid left. And not for nothing it is a medieval type setting so it's not like people had news or radios most probably didn't know what was happening in their world unless it effected them.

Yes, but those "at court" should know better. Still will watch

Barin118 Jan 2016 5:51 a.m. PST

Started watching the series…a bit strange to see elfs in t-shirts.(and J-R Davies as an elf) On the other hand, I've almost forgot the books, so still interesting to see the development.
