What is it about? – About 4 episodes so far. Wise ass mode off. Actually quite good. There appears there is a war brewing between Earth and Mars about 200 years in the future. Caught is the middle are the miners of the Belt. link |

Ib stopped after the Martians had stealth on their ships. Stealth doesnt work in space. Dumb science equals dumb show. |

I tuned out about 3/4 of the way through the premier 2 hour fiasco. It reminded me to much of BSG Chrome which was terrible. |

"Stealth doesn't work in space." I keep seeing this, and yes, I've read the arguments, but I think at certain tech levels they don't wash. Assuming the ability to warp the electromagnetic spectrum, I think, yes, in fact, you could "cloak" even a heat-emitting object from observation, or at least "easy detection," also at least along one "line of observation." For example, assume a ship is approaching a planet. Something as simple as a non-reflecting "umbrella" shield could be positioned between the ship and its target, with heat radiating surfaces located directly opposite the direction of travel. With even basic radar-defeating tech, how would such an object be readily discovered, when what is facing the observer is a non-radiating, non-emitting, non-reflecting surface? Star occlusion comes to mind, but what else? No, it wouldn't be "stealthy" to the rear, but it's not the departure point you're concerned with; it's the target. If they can't see you, that's your goal. In any case, Star Trek had stealth, so that's hardly the mark of a "dumb show." So it seems like a silly standard to apply. My questions instead would be how are the plotting, dialogue, story, theme, acting and direction. If those are good, I can forgive a little handwavium. |

Very Traveller-esque like Dark Matter. Good to mine fore roleplaying ambience, visuals etc. |

Waiting for more. I suspect another player is testing the balance of power. |

Dumb science equals dumb show. Good thing you're not watching it. Your head will explode when the protomolecule makes its appearance |

Doug, the Stealth Tech is about radar absorption and temporary thermal absorption. It's not about cruising around invisibly. The Stealth frigate uses internal heat sinks to "store" the thermal effects temporarily. |

Also, calling a show dumb because you saw a 5 second bit you didn't think matches real world physics must make you constantly disappointed in all entertainment. The books are some of the best sci fi I have read in the last 20 years. |

I like it so far. Good acting, characters are likeable, has sex and violence, so whats not to like. lol |

Based on the excellent books by James Corey – well worth a read. |

I'd read the first book, but remembered little of it, and never read the others. Got to see the first two episodes. Unfortunately, some of the male actors look too much alike making character distinction tricky (a common problem today, IMHO; do they clone them?), but otherwise the acting and direction are solid. Filming is incredible, though I tire of the "dark, damp, dirty spaceship" trope, as well as the "evil corporation" and "class-based" society tropes. Writing is good, plot is sustainable, stealth did not bother me (though Earth level G on Ceres did, but what can you do about that?). I did think the water issue was overdone. Water is common, even in space. Phosphorus is not; that's your priceless commodity. Alas, my On Demand doesn't have the third ep, just 1-2, then skips to 4. So I won't be watching more till that's corrected. (Syfy is stingy with their OD listings, too. Newsflash, guys; you're a marginal niche channel featuring story-arc driven shows; if you want to catch and sustain an audience, make the full scope available OD for an extended period. Geeks will still buy the DVDs, but not if they never get the chance to be fans.) |
