disgorgement!

Legally, that is. And like many things in the law it sounds quite dramatic, like a Medieval torture, but ultimately is fiddly and detailed, and boring as dust.

Today's ethics training also informed me that unlike the actual English meaning of the word (vomiting, or forced vomiting), legally, this just means if I made gains through misbehaviour, I could be forced to forfeit such gains (though interestingly, not necessarily back to the entity from which I acquired the ill-gotten gains).

So in a way, it is related to the Old French meaning of gorger, to pack things away (from whence English gets the "gorge yourself" phrase) as a sort of "unpacking".

In related news I had a Five Guys bacon double cheeseburger with raw onion, double jalapenos, pickles, and hot sauce for lunch.

Disgorgement, indeed!
