Ok, I'm a pretty accomplished DB developer, but perhaps I've become too focused. I took a half decent picture of myself when going through the Twitter account set up process the other day (not sure I like twitter) and decided I wanted to do the same just for a jpg. Windows 7 Lenovo laptop. Is there some windoze feature that allows me to use the web cam to take and save pictures? Surely access to the web cam is not just system settings on specific programs using APIs or other routines? Thanks for any help on this mysterious subject. -- Tim |

Most webcams come with their own software. Look through the software that came with the pc. You can also check device manager to find the manufacturer name of the cam. Might help you track down what software to use. |

Yes. You can get still images from a web cam as well as videos. Like cloud captain says, look for the propietary software to do that for your camera make. As it is a Lenovo laptop, I would look for Lenovo software. It is probably an OEM camera installed in that machine. |

My HP came with 'Cyberlink Youcam' installed. Nieces and nephew play with it a lot – videos and stills with effects. |

Thanks folks. AlistsirJ, I just looked for that but I must have removed it when I uninstalled most of my Lenovo stuff (bloat ware is a term used). Rats. Maybe I can finding on line. I don't have cyberink either, RC. I did find something in the Lenovo stuff I "let live". It takes grainy jogs and my picture ending software (Corel PhotoPaint) does recognise the headers of the file and can't open it. Better than nothing though. -- Tim |
