I want to write a few simple apps – partly to automate the odd gaming task, partly as a intellectual exercise. What's the easiest way – I'm really looking for free (like VBasic for windows)

I took the android studio, and followed a tutorial for an app that was similar to what I wanted to do (play podcasts).

You have the choice of starting out with eclipse or android studio. I would start with android studio -- even though its is not as mature (and there have been times I felt like screaming), it is the way of the future.

I appear to have forgotten about this post until last weekend!

I've done a bit with the MIT one – wrote a simple Random Number Generator – 2 sliders- you can set the upper and lower limits from 1 -100, operates on a button or a shake. The problem is that while I understand the language – it looks a lot like VBasic – the Blocks method is too cumbersome. Now installing the Google one linked to.

Going to carry on with MIT one for the mo – writing a turn counter/clock (you state start time, and turn length). May see if I can put in an event diary into it.

Thanks
