I bought this game for a friend-we played the old GDW game to death back in the day…
Excellent and Elegant-components are beatiful, laser cut, touched them and they fell off the counter sheets. Maneuver displays easy to use and color coded for the movement rules-very little checking the rules during play. Adds altitude and fuel usage to the game.
Only complaint-the double sided board seemed too small but allows those flying furballs you've read about to occur easily. Lack of scenarios and plane types.
Still worth it-it's one of those games a large group can play while they're debating on what to play. And drink. And eat. And debate Current Affairs.

Except for the fact that Bob never jammed his guns and long bursted me constantly(…errrr…)I recomend this game highly.

You can augment it by using the Blue Max/Canvas Eagles site

My favorite flying game! We used to play several sorties in an evening. Thanks for the links; I had no idea that the game was still around.

Only 6 airplanes in the game.

Shooting is limited to 5 dice, because that's all they put in.

Actually say buy a second copy to get another map.

Get it on sale. I'll pass.

I must say the first time I played this game I did not like it. lol Spent a couple turns closing with an enemy fighter. On his first shot at me, my control stick was shot away. So I had no control of my airplane and spent the rest of the game in a shallow dive until I crashed! Lucky for me I decided to give the game another try and really enjoyed it.

Phil Hall is a very nice gentleman and I remember back in the day playing his game with him and others at local cons. After the passing of GDW, another group took up the Blue Max banner and continued on with it. So glad to know its still continuing on 20+ years later.

It's upgrades/descendants are the best use I can think of for 1/72 planes!

Oh, wait, there is that handsome ornithopter from an Albatross… ;->=
