Is it just me, and my local stores, or have the plain, Dorito's corn chips disappeared from the face of the planet?

I can't find them in any of the local grocery, or mega-mart stores anymore.

They seem to have disappeared around the end of November, 2013.

Is this another sign of the coming apocalypse, and all the preppers are hoarding them in their underground bunkers, and/or Uncle Sam is as well, without telling me to consider doing the same?

They're much better tasting than all the other corn chip options out there.

Sure, you can get nacho cheese, taco, salsa, cool ranch, and other varieties, but apparently, none of just the plain corn ones.

Now that you mention it, the plain ones have been absent from the shops round my neck of the woods too. Is it some weird seasonal thing?

Marketing guru: That Santa guy wears red, so we'll only sell the flavours that come in red and orange packets. That way they won't clash with his clothes!

Seriously? I've never seen a plain Durito. Didn't know that they made them.

They've gone to live with the non-frosted Pop Tarts. frown

Football season rush?

Maybe they are changing the packaging size and are giving the old product time to sell out so you won't notice the new bags are smaller.

I haven't seen these either, ever. Around here when you say plain Dorito people mean Nacho Cheese.

Pretty sure the local Wegmans was fully stocked in plain tortilla chips. Never heard of plain Doritos, unless that is a colloquial term akin to "Coke" to describe all fizzy sugar-infused soft drinks…

Damon.

"Plain" Doritos corn chips come in a yellow bag. They are not a common item in most areas. I have only seen them in stores a handful of times.

Stores have tortilla chips by the metric ass load.

You can get blue corn, organic, free range, etc.

The closest to plain Doritos we have is the nacho cheese flavored.

I haven't seen plain in a long time either.

Mr Elmo is correct in that there are other snack manufacturers who sell "plain" tortilla chips (sometimes also called "restaurant-style" for marketing purposes). My guess is that Frito-Lay decided to opt out of "plain" and, instead, focus on more exotic flavors.

By the way, according to the following Wikipedia entry, Doritos are hot sellers not only here in the U.S., but also in Canada, the U.K., and Japan:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doritos

The Japanese version has definitely piqued my interest! Anyone willing to try clam chowder flavor?:

I like the plain corn chip ones for making nachos, since the taste of them is superior to the other, run of the mill corn chips sold by various companies.

I suspect in competition against the others, perhaps the plain ones don't sell as well, since at full retail (which I never pay), they are $4.29 USD a bag now, while you can get them from others for $2.00 USD.

I only buy them when they're on a half-off sale, since the extra 15 cents is worth it for the added flavor.

I guess I'll have to call their 800 number, not that it'll do me any good, I suspect.
