My lady wants to know why the Brits like beans on toast? Or mushy peas?? Wondering in Oklahoma. |

Neither of these are regarded as anything special. Beans on toast is really just a quick reasonable healthy hot snack. Mushy peas just a vegetable. x42 |

Oh, 'fess up. You guys keep yourselves warm in the damp winter mornings by passing gas regularly. |

Oh and what kind of beans do you use ?????? And mushy peas, canned or just over cooked ??? |

Look up the sales stats for tins of baked beans. Those. Haricot beans in tomato sauce if you can't be bothered. |

Had baked beans on toast yesterday for lunch. Couple of big slices of toasted bread, lightly buttered, plenty of beans. It's filling. It's fast. It tastes incredible. Mushy Peas – can be very variable, but they take the edge off the fat in Fish & chips. And they don't fall on the floor when you're eating said F&Cs from the paper. |

Beans on toast is something you get as kids and never grow out of. Sometimes I like to jazz it up with melted chesse on top or a bit of BBQ sauce but plain old Heniz baked beans on two doorsteps of buttered white toast is hard to beat. |

Baked beans on toast was a staple at my NJ Granny's house. Raising five kids during the Depression does that

Love baked beans on toast. Unfortunately, since moving to the States its tricky, and expensive, to get the British style baked beans. Theres probably a comparable brand out there, but I find Heinz vegetarian beans with a dollup of ketchup added is a close match. |

You can't get baked beans in America? I thought that was where they came from? Heinz being an American company

Silurian@ I always thought Heniz style baked beans were copied from our US cousins. Clearly not.

Heinz baked beans on toast, for added protein, add scrambled eggs. Just what you need after a long run. Mushy peas is something you have with fish & chips, or with pie and gravy, not on toast. |

They are different!!! American Heinz baked beans do not go well on toast (at least to me – just what I'm used to). They even have little bits of meat in the tin. British import stores have British-style heinz baked beans at ridiculous prices. |

Batchelors beans are way better than Heinz. Batch bread toasted golden brown with real butter and a can of steaming hot batchelors beans and a big mug of tea
. I am really hungry now. Phil |

Hi Kyote Did you ever sing this when you were a kid? Beans, beans, they're good for your heart the more you eat the more you the more you the better you feel beans, beans for every meal. or "So eat your beans with every meal" |
kyoteblue | 12 Nov 2013 11:40 p.m. PST |
I only heard that song years later on Doctor Demento's radio show, Mapleleaf. |
