I recently watched Tabletop's playing session of King of Tokyo, and it put me in the mood for some monster rampaging fun
but KoT isn't really the feel I want. It just seemed a bit too abstract for me.
Basically, I want a game where humongous monsters that vaguely look like guys in rubber suits march around a city smashing buildings, trains, cars, and each other. Oh, and the local constabulary, army, etc., too. I want it to be light, silly, and tactically interesting but still fun. And I want it to be "buy and play," preferably in one box. Don't want to paint, don't want to collect, just want to set up the board, put out the monsters, and start smashing. And I want cheap (well, as cheap as such things can be).
As I said, KoT looks amusing, but it's too abstract.
I've seen stuff about the OOP Monsters Menace America, but that looks a little too strategic
and it's OOP.
Monsterapocalypse looks interesting, and possibly like what I want, but I'm put off by the blind aspect of it, and I get the impression that the monsters might not be the iconic critters I want. (They don't have to be Godzilla, King Kong, Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah, but they need to be darn close.) And, as I said, I want to buy a box and play with friends (more than one), and not have to invest anything more into it.
Anybody have other possibilities? Note that I'm not really looking for a minis game where I have to create my own terrain; I want a ready-made monster game that's good to go, and suitable to a gaming group that prefers fairly rules-light stuff (my buds like Risk, CotE, X-wing, Wings of War, etc., but we've tended to shy from heavy rule book stuff).
