Peter Cushing, actor and wargamer would have been 100 today. |

I liked his Hammer films, particularly the Frankenstein ones. He was one of the greats. Ron |

He was something else. I would like to have known him. |

I always enjoyed seeing him in films. He's my favorite version of Dr. Frankenstein
the real villain of the story. Oh, and It's John Wayne's birthday as well. |

I hate to admit it, but it wasn't until the original 'Star Wars' that I became more aware of the greatness of Peter Cushing, although I knew his face from some of his earlier Hammer horror films and from his performance in the 1976 sci-fi movie 'At the Earth's Core'. Incidently, the latter film was released the exact month and year that Mr. Cushing began shooting his scenes for the former. Speaking of 'Star Wars', there was an interview I once read where actress Carrie Fisher had a bit of difficulty acting with Mr. Cushing. It wasn't anything negative at all, but, according to her, Mr. Cushing was such a nice person off-camera that she couldn't relate to him being the evil Grand Moff Tarkin. Now, that's one good sign of a great actor. Just my opinion, but he should have been knighted for his years of excellence in cinema and the theater. Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. Cushing, and thank you, sir. |

like Saginaw my first introduction to Mr Cushing's work was in Star Wars. It wasnt until I was old enough to stay up late and watch the late night horror movies on the local uhf station that I discovered his work in the Hammer films. Chuck |

A very wonderful and beloved man. |

His Island of Terror is one of my favorites: imdb.com/title/tt0060548 A scientist working on a cure for cancer accidentally unleashes the Silicates! They suck the bones and marrow from your living flesh, then they divide into TWO creatures! And they love dropping on you from the treetops! Augh!
Scared the bananas out of me as a kid, and still a very cool movie. Good show, Mr. Cushing, OBE. |

Unlike Mr. Wayne, above, Peter Cushing may not actually be too terribly dead to death at the moment. Methinks he's made enough horror movies to discover the secret to life after death. Either that or Christopher Lee has him tucked away somewhere, providing precious bodily fluids to keep Saruman of Many Colored Veins alive and kicking!

When I saw the subject line, for a few seconds I actually thought Peter Cushing is still alive! |

I rather enjoyed his turn as Dr. Who in the two movies he made
as well as Tarkin, of course. |

Ah yes, the Hammer years. A golden era. |

"Mr. Cushing was such a nice person off-camera that she couldn't relate to him being the evil Grand Moff Tarkin." Unless it is an urban legend the other problem with Cushing as Tarkin was that throughout his scenes he was wearing comfortable carpet slippers rather than boots. Priceless!!
