The tech people at the Onion have a detailed account on how they got hacked, and what people need to do to stop it from happening to them. It's 100% true and serious, the only un-answered question is, why them? link |

They don't realize the Onion is satire? |

They don't realize the Onion is satire? Oh they realize all too well. They are probably angry that the Onion made fun of them. Or they viewed it as a US propaganda machine or something. The mentality is very different in "The Old Country" than it is in the West. Growing up, I've seen it first hand. |

WATJ nailed it. In certain (nearly all) cultures, an insult in jest is an INSULT, as there are things one does not jest about. Growing up in a different culture, I was acutely aware that implying something about "people" was jocular satire and implying the same thing your sister was tantamount an invitation to fisticuffs. Different people, different tabus. |

So, let's hack something of theirs. That would probably be lost on them. Call them "Sons of pig-eating s." That should punch all of their buttons. |

Totalitarians hate to be made to look foolish. It undermines their power and control like nothing else. That's probably the motive. Why the Syrians thought that they could intimidate the Onion, just one of their antagonists is a mystery to me. |
