they look bit old, I can see how it would be hard to get it to work though

but I like the look.

I think there was serious pressure from Hollywood to make this into a Young Adult movie and raise the age of all concerned.

It seems they have ruined it already. "You will be the last."
It was supposed to be a GAME!!! The "kids" were not supposed to know!

A POX ON HOLLYWOOD ONCE AGAIN!!!!!

I knew they would ruin it.
Now keep your damn paws off "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

Harrumph.

BTW, I share much of Card's politics, so I will only boycott the movie because I will hate what they did to a great book.

Some idiots will hate the movie because they hate his politics. Not me! grin

I will hate it because I can already see the serried ranks of children, hands at their sides, all screaming "AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!" in unison.

No only the final simulation was supposed to be a game.

Not sure about "You will be the last" I agree with you that is out of place.

WRT Card's politics they were so ridiculously hypocritical concerning events in the late 90s and early 2000s that I gave up reading his forwards.

Great book and not too bad follow ups though he was afflicted with the same disease that George R R Martin has in extending things far too long.

I agree they are too old, but the last copy of Ender's Game was a Scholastic Press printing. (Those slips we used to get in school.) It even had a blurb calling it a fine young teen work.(Not those exact words, but you get my meaning…)
I actually disagree with Card on some of his politics, especially of late.
I must assume that they had to use older kids to get any kind of coherent performances, as I do know what a pain it can be to try to work with kids under the age of ten.

It seems they have ruined it already. "You will be the last."

I don't think it gives that much away. If they failed(lost) with Ender, there would not be enough time to find another as capable as Wiggin.
I think Rackham posits on this in the expansion to novel length.
John they do know they are training for war. They also know that they all won't make it to command troops or the fleet.
The Ansible communicator is the only thing that allows these tactics to be employed much less work.
Sorry for the ramble.

Given recent history, I'm surprised a book that has the protagonist kill the schoolyard bullies as a solution to the harassment has been made into a movie. Granted, Ender never knows he's caused their deaths— he thinks they're just unconscious, and then he's removed from the situation so he's never told. As for making it a YA movie, that's the biggest audience, pulling younger and older moviegoers, as well as the target group. If it's target younger, most teens won't go (and many adults won't either); if it's targeted older than YA, pre-teens and "tweens" won't go (or may not get permission). YA is spot on for a film that has the themes and genre of Ender's Game. I can't blame Hollywood for the fickleness of the movie-going public in this instance.
