My Mom loved him and all the other country / western singers from the 60's and 70's. She'll be heart broken as he was one of the last from that time.

Never much of a fan of that period of music, but Mom would play his stuff over and over…….and over and over…..and over again.

I know a great many of his songs and he was very talented.

Rest in Peace.

That song is the first thing I thought of, too, John.

My Dad still likes popping in George's greatest hits CD when we drive somewhere together.

RIP, sir.

I tell you, this just about breaks my heart. I knew this day had to come, but it is still really sad. Of course, the amazing thing is that with his lifestyle he lived so long. Kind of like Keith Richards, but in a more talented way.
George was a huge part of my childhood, and his music has stayed with me even up to now. I listen to him close to everyday, and for my six year old daughter, he is one of the "Big Three" who she can name when she hears his voice (the other two are Lyle Lovett and Hank).

So long George, and RIP buddy.

Sad Day.

I'll always remember him and Tammy playing on the back of a flat bed truck at a Family Reunion when I was around 10 or so. I begged for a guitar for Christmas and then learned that our part of the family had absolutely no musical talent. George got it all.

What more can one say that's already been said, other than he was country music royalty from a time when the genre was proud of its roots.

Godspeed, Mr. Jones, and thank you very, very much. The eyes of Texas are upon you, sir.

He led a hard life and he will be missed. He deserves the rest. A truly great talent.
