Most famous for playing the dry-witted psychiatrist "Maj. Sidney Freedman" on the CBS series from 1973 until the show's finale ten years later:

Godspeed, Mr. Arbus, and thank you very much for sharing your talent and for your service in World War II. I salute you, sir.

They've even made a movie about his first wife… imdb.com/title/tt0422295

One of the few who didn't necessarily care for "M*A*S*H" (either the movie OR TV series), But would seek out (via "TV Guide" etc.) the episodes with Arbus. Well written character – excellently performed!

RIP

(and ditto Saginaw's remarks on your military service!)

He was a great actor and Sydney was a great part. I loved the film MASH and watched the TV series, but the growing influence of Alan Alda killed it for me. I didn't watch 'The Grand Finale' because I knew it would be self-indulgent bovine manure. It didn't jump the shark, it dove right into the mouth of JAWS.
