Sorry, I was tied up at home and had no HS Internet connection, this from Wednesday evening.

Probably not a smart idea to make a legitimate point from a comedic angle after a week of terror and horror, and during an ongoing attempt to apprehend a suspect. But then again, that's just me.

Perhaps if the news media were not so rabid to report something, anything, to fill the fill air time such comments would not be necessary. It really is appalling when you think about some of the 'reporting' and, especially,"commentary" that goes on. Hard to get straight facts with the "instant" news syndrome these days.

That was great, and well deserved (although I normally like CNN just fine).

I know one thing…John King has not been in front of the cameras since that day.

Serves them right.

jpattern219 Apr 2013 10:00 a.m. PST

Yeah, I don't see the problem with Jon doing this at all. Definitely serves them right.

Is was not CC that was irresponible, it was CNN.

And in point of fact, it is in these most stressful times that the media needs to be the most cautious. I hope someone at CNN is smart enough to tell that crew that people are more interested in dependable information than "exclusives".

Indeed, Anderson Cooper, for instance preceded just about everything he said with a cautionary statement about the reliability of statements in these conditions. John King just kept clucking about having a "CNN Exclusive!"

CNN got called to task in a timely fashion, just as they should have been.

The quality of CNN has gone way down hill over the past year or so. It's become much more sensational than it used to be. Often the could deliver the headlines at least as they happened. Now they seem to be delivering them before they happen. The ripping was phenomenal. Well done JS!

Yeah, but…other when the big 3 networks crank in, like today, CNN's the only real news in town…unfortunately.

However, Chris Cuomo may be a rock they can build upon…indeed it looks like this incident may be seperating the old wood and chaff from the wheat.

I hope…

Well, it's not like this kind of thing is all that uncomon at CNN.

15th Hussar19 Apr 2013 1:10 p.m. PST

No, during the Carnival Cruise line ep, Ashleigh Bamfield
breathlessly and I do mean breathlessly; while talking to a teenage passenger proudly announced that CNN had contacted her mother and she was on the line to talk to her.

To which the young girl reply; "I just hung up with her on my phone".

The sputtering that followed was worth its weight in gold.

That was bad, but CNN isn't the only one to bungle reporting. The closed caption service for Fox News identified actress Zooey Deschanel as the bomber :)

News services are so desperate to one-up each other nowadays as often as not the crap they report ends up being wrong, sometimes comically (ie brunette actress reported to be a 19 year old Chechan male terrorist) and sometimes not nearly so funny (like the poor teenager that who had his picture plastered all over the New York Post and identified as one of the bombers).

People expect the news to keep them updated second by second. In the rush to feed the audience and keep them glued to their sets the news channels will toss out every morsel of information that comes their way.

If it's wrong, it's wrong, but you can't just hold back and check up on it because you might miss something vital and everybody zaps to another channel.

NBC seemed to come out of it ok.

Yeah, the Big Three Networks came through it all quite well.
