Once a placekicker with the Detroit Lions, Chicago Cardnials, and New York Giants, he became one of the distinctive voices of the NFL, calling their weekly games and teaming up with ex-Oakland Raiders coach John Madden from 1981 until 2002:

Madden describes Summerall as "one of the card-carrying good guys"….and he was. Godspeed, Mr. Summerall, and thank you very much.

Madden has it right. I am very sorry to hear this, he was a big part of my Sundays for a long time.

A great old school announcer. Sadly the new guys aren't up to his quality. I've pretty much given up on watching pro ball. RIP Pat.

Wow, the golden age of football broadcasting. That was back when the broadcasters and the coverage was good.

One of the most memorable sports announcing teams of all times. Sorry you are gone Pat. Rest in peace.
