They have carefully recreated Dark age buildings, but I can't see much more than that.
Apparently the Anglo Saxons were clueless about fighting and armor is useless in a fight.
50 or so Vikings can destroy an entire kingdom

Well with the creepy "Hey slave come join my wife and I as we do the nasty" They just about lost me…

If it lasts very long, I am wondering if Cnut becomes king of Northumbria.

Hate to disabuse you, but Cnut won't be the king….

I saw 5 minutes of a single episode.

I'm predisposed to like this series and it failed. Who does watch these things?

I had high hopes and do like the lead guy but I gave up after 3 eps.

Yep, I just couldn't get into it.

This! Oh, Lord, THIS!

Why the Vikings deliberately *choose* to attack where the enemy is, baffles me.

Well, the record does suggest that the Vikings, for all
their ignorance or whatever, were fairly successful.

Perhaps it was a difference that Vikings had experience
of the fighting styles of different cultures, whereas
the folx of an island nation did not, thus were not that
adaptable.

None of us really knows, of course.

They were traders and raiders. Established area with good defense, why sit down and bargain. If your kingdom is rife with civil war and corruption to the pooint where your borders are weakly defended, then they raided away.
They exploited mobility to hit you where you were not well protected. Later was when they showed up in fleets and took down kingdoms.

The show, like all Horrywood and TV productions, proves that keeping formation and wearing armor, particularly helmets, is useless in battle.
All of our rules are wrong!
