So Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank museum and left a comment in the guest book…

The 19-year-old pop idol wrote: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

It's nice to see that money really helps you keep yourself well insulated from reality.

I wonder if a Twilight Zone moment would even work on him or would some Nazi thug smash his head with a rifle butt long before he had a chance to realize what a vapid and stupid brat he's been.

Holly Crawp! A 19 year old made an idiotic remark and/or written statement? You haters better stay off the facebooks, that is all it is!

Meanwhile, in the news, a prominent Kuwaiti opposition leader (an ex-Prime Minister) has been jailed for five years for insulting the emir and 20 people have been killed and more than 100 others wounded in a series of early morning explosions across Iraq.

While I don't think it was the "best statement"* in the world, it is still a "whatever" statement. It wasn't particularly mean spirited. It was illogical since Ms Frank would be something like 93 years old this year so I really doubt she would be a "belieber." It was also pretty self centered.

*It was a rather stupid thing to say.

It was also pretty self centered.

I think that's the main problem with it – turning the visit into something about himself. Perhaps shows a bit of an underestimate of the seriousness of the holocaust – going to one of the "shrines" (if you will) and then thinking "I'll make a jokey comment" is a bit dumb.

A popular entertainer says something stupid— isn't that a bit like "dog bites man"?

Jovian115 Apr 2013 8:24 a.m. PST

What I don't understand is why it is such a news-worthy item in the first instance. I'm with Parzival – it isn't worthy of comment. When popular people say stupid things – and there is this type of reaction – it gives them exactly what they want – more coverage of themselves. Ignore him for a while, he will go away too.

But we're laughing at him, not with him, which is kinda fun….

jpattern215 Apr 2013 8:42 a.m. PST

OMG, if Anne and Bieber were both on TMP, she would, like, SOOOOO stifle him, amirite?

He desperately needs the influence of Paul Anka.

He just wanted people in the future to know it was THAT Justin Bieber who signed the guest book. So, five years from now, some teenager will scan through the guest book and say, man, this guy Bieber is such a tool. Who the hell did he think he was? He couldn't even spell believer correctly.

Silly sod if I say so myself.

This little boy is just another bit of stuff in the cesspool that is today's popular culture.

altfritz15 Apr 2013 9:49 a.m. PST

What was kind of funny was when he visited his former public school he signed his old locker. Of course, the janitor, recognizing it for what it was, later washed the graffiti off!

(Much the chagrin of the Principal who, I think, may have had plans to auction the locker off at some point in the future.)

Ha Ha. Thank you Canada.

Streitax15 Apr 2013 10:15 a.m. PST

Oh, he's Canadian? Thank God, that's one less sin we must atone for.

I admire your faith. In five years, I wouldn't count on most teenagers being able to spell their own names.

I'm only surprised this caused a stir. It's totally in keeping with his career to date. Fatuous and self centered.

So upset that she sold her story to The Onion.

Reminds me of the woman who walked into a bookshop and said to the assistant "I really enjoyed that book by Anne Frank" did she write a sequel" ??

Conceited, arrogant brat.

Guys I agree with the irritation and disgust. But here are some other things to consider.

I've never been in the Anne Frank house but have driven slowly past it. It seems very small: can you really normally spend an hour in it?

The reason I ask is because my own modest house is at least twice as big and I don't think I could spend half an hour with a group of people taking them through even if every room had historical significance. grin

Other than outrage at his comments, there seems to be no comment ANYWHERE as to his reaction to the actual events of the past. Could not this be a 19 year old type behaviour of inappropriate nervous jokes? I was a pretty intelligent, well read, and thoughtful young adult and I imagine most TMP members were similar. But I do have a memory of some of my friends at the time and at the ripe old age of 22 to 26, I worked with young soldiers so I have various memories of stupid inappropriate comments in that age frame (visiting Dachau, for example). One of these, who was stupider than Bieber has ever been, is now a vice-president in a major bank and when we get together and put back some beer we remember those times and marvel at how different we are now.

And yes, the comments do seem childishly self-centred but again, I look at his age and my own memories (see above). I'm not willing to condemn someone who is a still a kid for all his success unless I know he was actually disrespectful and ignorant while inside the place.

For the record, I don't like his music it makes me grimace and I've seen interviews in Canada of his mom who, in my opinion, came across as a contemporary of Sharon, Lucy and Trinity (if you don't know what I'm talking about, they are female characters from Trailer Park Boys – Google the TV series title if you still don't know laugh)
