John, I hope you are going to enjoy this article.

"The third season of Game of Thrones is finally here, and we're back to chronicle the TV adaptation of George R. R. Martin's world of Westeros — and how it differs from the books — in a series of letters between Wired writers (and Game of Thrones fanatics) Erik Henriksen and Laura Hudson. Spoilers for this episode follow, obviously.

A brief review of "Dark Wings, Dark Words" and how it differed from the novels…"

Jojen and Meera are what happens when you transform a BOOK to the silver screen.
In LOTR, PJ decided to not do the Barrow Downs. Then, he had to figure out toot sweet how to give the halflings awesome swords. Som he had Aragorn tote them around, just in case he ran into any unarmed hobbits.
For whatever reason, HBO did not include the Reeds in Season Two, nor Big and Little Walder. Now, he HAS to bring in the Reeds, since they are vital to Bran's hegira to the Wall and beyond. "Hi! I'm Jojen, and that's my kick-ass sister, Meera."
I have a feeling that in the future books, their Dad is going to be VERY important revealing secrets. (Like who is Jon Snow's mother. Or father, for that matter… grin)
And, THAT is now another mess that HBO will have to deal with.

The books and the series are turning into two different stories.

I think season three has started to already run afoul of the too many characters syndrom of Martin.

I actually like HBOs treatment of the Reeds. Jojen has the Warg-fu and seeks out Bran to help with his eventual love of wood.

Is there a website with bodycount per episode? grin

To be fair, how in hell could you not?

I hope they bring back or in Little Walder, and SOME of the rest of the evil Freys.
It would be a shame to discard Manderly's classic line, referring to the lad's death, "Perhaps it is a blessing. Had he lived, he would have grown up to be a Frey."
Of course, that's a Book 5 SPOILER. grin

I also hope that the keep the same actor for Janos Slynt, for Jon's "feel good happy moment" in Book 5. Page 111?

SOME of the rest of the evil Freys
