From the Prometheus/Win Fail, topic, originally:

However, one thing has come to the fore in flimes of late.

I love exotic, different looking women, always have, always will.

BUT…with GoT, (both) Girls w/Dragon Tatoo and a few other newer films, director's are really pushing the "odd" looking women actors…Noomi Rapace, the Fake Boob Sister Lady from GoT/Promo, heck…half the female case of GoT and there are others.

What's the point…I mean, there are a plethora of really, strange/odd/unique looking actresses out there and by and large, they're about as androgenous looking as you can get (and that's putting it mildly).

Is Hollywood/the Int'l Film industry really trying to skew things lately by putting modern day Errol Flynn/Brad Pitt leads on screen, while also fobbing off a bunch of Agnes Moorehead types on us at the same time.

Again, not every woman on film has to be beautiful or curvy, I got it, but this latest batch…what gives?

In the GoT books, Brienne, Osha and Ygritte are described as real homely and/or ….
I have to disagree with you on these chicks. With the exception of Brienne, they chose hot ones. And, the girl who plays Brienne is in real life, quite attrqctive. They really laid on the ugly with her, and if it goes by the books, she will not improve any.
I do think that Tonks, excuse me, OSHA, exaggerates her slouch a bit. She channels Quasimodo a bit methinks.

Some of these women are SUPPOSED to be ugly. Unfortunately (or not) most actresses can only get work by being attractive.
Charlize Theron, who is hot as a pistol, won all kinds of accolades for playing ugly women, "expanding her actig skills", like it was something unnatural.

The Dragon Tattoo girls were supposed to be … hard edged.

Frankly, I find the plethora of attractve women in movies unnatural. (Not complaining, just noting a statistical anomalie.) Don't casting directors ever get out into the Real World™? Well, yes, they do, but that's not where the money is.

I think your logic is flawed. The women they've chosen for various parts are typical and in many ways "average" across the board, but made new again in film and television. Perhaps this is just showing viewers that not all women are models, or stereotypical pretty face, perfect body actress material. Stereotyping in casting makes for a more "fantasy" film than casting actors and actresses who are more typical.

Okay, again, I was approaching this from…where all of a sudden, did these actresses appear.

I also understand roles, typecasting, average looking women, etc. I also appreciate women who look different.

But it seems like there is a whole crop of women actors now that have popped up to fill those long ignored roles.

BTW… I forget the character's name in Girl/Tattoo, but I must say, she was one of the most human (as in a very nice person, underneath) characters i've ever seen displayed in a movie. (Monika the Arab/Turkish woman in Children of Men being another).

I guess Hollywood went a hunting and they found the actresses they wanted.

I thought the women in Prometheus look Elfin and ethereal myself. No meat on any of them.

Sophie Turner is starting to tower over her costars.
Emilia Clarke is drop dead gorgeous.
Natalia Tena was doing a Pincher Martin impersonation last night.
Rose Leslie is beautiful.
Natlie Dormey is different.
Gwendoline Christe is tall.
All around good casting!

That is part of her charm, and leather.

Those actresses have always been around, but in the past they have mostly had to content themselves with either stage work or pivotal roles such as Bystander #6 and Coffeehouse Patron #3.
