I regret to report that Stephen Welford was found dead at his home on 27th March. He had not shown up for work since Friday last and attempts by his line manager to contact him been unsuccessful. In view of this the police visited his house and, getting no response, had to force an entry. Stephen's mother (I understand she is his only close family) has been informed. She is being comforted and supported by friends. The police have told her that there will need to be an inquest so, given that this is a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, there is unlikely to be any further detail available for a couple of weeks. According to his wishes, he will be cremated in his home town of Hartlepool.

Stephen and I had played many games of DBM and GdeB. He was unfailingly fairminded and generous. He will be missed by many. It is tragic that he should have passed away at such an early age.

RIP and God Bless.
