I got these "sing-a-long songs from WW2" from a link, I didn't think I would know any of them, but I am having overwhelming memories of my mum! She used to sing me a couple of these when I was little.

Mom:

Nava tiesa (Isn't it true – Lativian)
Šuj, māmiņa, man krekliņu (Sew me a shirt – Latvian)
Ko, tētiņ, tu darīji (What do you do – Latvian)
Ved māsu dancot (Take your sister dancing – Latvian)
Roshki da noshki (Horns and hooves – Russian)
U popa byla sobaka (The priest's dog – Russian)

Dad:

Lord Randall
Barbara Allen
The Wayfaring Stranger

Folks songs and other nonsense like that.

My mother and older Sister lived for SHOW TUNES!!!!!!!

ACK!

To this day, I'll be minding my own business and all of a sudden I start humming…"I wanna wash that man right outta my hair" or "Camelot"

I yelled at my sister about this last week when she came down for vacation!

My only revenge is that me rotten daughter yells at me for the same thing, she's minding her own business and all of a sudden she can't get "Stormbringer" or "Mistreated" out of her head.

Still though…SHOW TUNES! UGH!

I must admit, I miss the old "Sing along with the bouncing ball" WB travelogue cartoons!

My mom knows the lyrics to absolutely no songs. She does sing along with a "Dee, dee, dee, dee" on the ones she likes.

Thanks for this thread Chook. I haven't thought about my mother's singing for a long time. When I was very small, she'd sing Pony Boy to me:

I don't remember my mom singing, but she always listened to big band easy listening.

My mother mainlined on the old music hall songs (she was an "older mum" – born in 1910) but she also had a repertoire of … interesting … Army songs thanks to my Dad, to which she knew all the rude words. She was a trained concert pianist, and her idea of housework was 5 minutes dusting and half an hour playing popular songs on the piano. Ah, memories…

Mum used to sing a number of songs that I still sing to myself today…

Nazrat, it was my Dad who used to sing to me "you are my sunshine"

Come to think of it, my mother also taught me Birmingham Jail:

My dad sang : YouTube link

which was odd, as all serving family members WWI, WWII and National Service were army (AFAIK)

Pictors-my mum does that, except she sort of knows a few words, which makes it funnier.

She once sung that Dolly Parton hit
"Charlene".

I said 'Mum, you only know one word, and that's wrong…"

Soft kitty,

Warm kitty,

Little ball of fur.

Happy kitty,

Sleepy kitty,

Purr Purr Purr

Not that sure if either of them sang to me and my younger bros. But no matter. But heard a few song parodies from my buds.
