No, not the F-1 racing circuit engines, but the Apollo F-1 engines from from Apollo 11.

A space history project led by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos has exciting news out today: Apollo mission F-1 engines have been recovered from deep beneath the surface of the Atlantic ocean, as the "F-1 Recovery Project" years in the making reaches a successful conclusion.

Why?

Because we "lost" the plans?

Why indeed. Someone knows something we don't know. Perhaps there was something else down there, and they needed a cover story for all those deep water explorations. Maybe there was something more than kerosene generating one and a hal million pounds of thrust, something that can't be manufactured. Or maybe someone has more money than he knows what to do with.

I'm surprised anything's left, but the pictures are pretty cool.

Yeah, my first thought was "I wonder how much money was spent finding and fishing those things out of the ocean?"

Or maybe we never had the plans.

Hey, I think this is great. I know, I know: Billionaires should be taxed 100% over anything over $100,000 USD and that money given to the Government, er The State, drat! I mean Poor, yeah that's it…

Seriously, I'd rather have a few of these guys spending money on stuff like this rather than another yacht, custom jet plane island paradise "just for them" and their celebutard debutante girlfriend. Ok, so its a geeky, nerdboy kind of thing. So the Hell What! This has a certain panache and cool factor about it that should be trumpeted here. Ditto for Elon Musk. I hope he does get a manned Mars mission going and I also hope he can get a Lunar colony up and running!
