I would think that someone who didn't get caught would be more prolific right? I mean getting caught probably involves some period of detention and you could be stealing stuff in that time. Still that is a lot of times to be unsuccessful, even if he was only successful 10% of the time that would be tough to beat. |

I used to catch shoplifters at K-Mart. Back in the 70s, it was a "summary offense" in Pennsylvania. Not even a misdemeanor. Repeated offenses would/could lead to misdemeanors, with the penal code giving a year in prison, which of course was never given. I got my fair share of wackos, though. City councilmen, strippers, sons of infamous child abusers, etc. I quit on a moment's notice because I was afraid I would hate my fellow Man if I stayed on the job. |
