I found a trailer for the new "Ghost in the Shell" film:

There is also a website:

I loved the two series of "Ghost" that came out a few years back. This one looks promising.

FINALLY!

YAY!!!

GarrisonMiniatures13 Feb 2013 7:02 a.m. PST

Seconded! All hail the Major!

'Details of when Arise will appear in the West have not yet been revealed, but in Japan the new series will be launched as four 50-minute parts. The first of those will be available to watch in movie theaters from June 22.'

On the other hand, it's a prequel…..

Anime delende est. But to each his own.

Anime must be destroyed! grin Nice use of the Latin. And as you say each to his own. Personally I enjoy and appreciate it and is like any other genre art form, it has its masters and then there is all the hacks.

I really enjoyed GitS as well, looking forward to this.

As an aside, I was at the local B&N browsing where I overheard a pink-haired teen-aged girl slagging off on GitS. I wanted to yell "Noooo!" and slap her… :)

damon.

Not only is it a prequel, it also doesn't have Mamoru Oshii directing, and I can't detect any storyline lifts from the manga (as all movies and TV series keep retreading the same storylines from the manga over and over- stop doing the puppetmaster! )

I hope this will work out.

Yay!!! Crossing my fingers that its as good as its predecessors. GitS is one of my favorite anime movies and series, and favorite SciFi generally.

Caesar13 Feb 2013 11:25 a.m. PST

Is this related to the movies or the series?

Caesar13 Feb 2013 11:26 a.m. PST

Nevermind.

Anime delende est. But to each his own.

I think I'd like anime better if it weren't for the preponderance of crappy, jerky animation. I know the "japanimation" process and style is cheaper, but I find it very unpleasant to watch. YMMV.

But… She is wearing pants!? The Major rarely wears pants.

I'm watching ARISE on Netflix and enjoying it immensely, though Ep2 crams a lot of stuff in 50 minutes and hard to keep up w/reading subtitles.

I miss the old American voices, but the Japanese ones are pleasant enough. Good plot lines so far, especially #1
