Since today is the 39th anniversary of the release of this, well, "classic", I have to ask my fellow TMPers where and when did you first see it? For me, it was at the old Fort Worth Twin Drive-In Theatre, the west screen ("Screen #1"), sometime later in '74 after a couple of the first-run movie houses showed it. Now, how about everyone else? |
| Waco Joe | 06 Feb 2013 9:19 a.m. PST |
Rudder Theater at A&M sometime between 77 and 80. |
20thmaine | 06 Feb 2013 9:21 a.m. PST |
On TV in the early 1980s as part of a classic SF film series. I seem to be one of the few on TMP who actually like it (and no, I'm not kidding). |
Saber6 | 06 Feb 2013 9:29 a.m. PST |
I think it was on VHS, many moons ago It has it's moments, and is worth the slow parts |
| richarDISNEY | 06 Feb 2013 9:31 a.m. PST |
1986. Rented it on VHS. Burned the tape soon afterwards.

| Atomic Floozy | 06 Feb 2013 9:41 a.m. PST |
I had to look at the date to remember. I saw it at the old Ritz Theater in Big Spring, Texas. It was a date & I can't for the life of me remember who my date was. It was the only time that I went out with the guy. |
| SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER | 06 Feb 2013 9:54 a.m. PST |
On cable in late 74 or early 75. |
| Garand | 06 Feb 2013 11:37 a.m. PST |
I saw it on one of the high end cable movie channels, unedited. I had known about it before, but decided to sit down and watch it to see what it was all about. Well, now I know
Damon. |
John the OFM | 06 Feb 2013 11:45 a.m. PST |

Netflix, about a year ago. and the bleach treatments are still not working. Doctors are going to have to operate soon
.. |
| Rrobbyrobot | 06 Feb 2013 12:09 p.m. PST |
I saw it on cable some two, or three years ago. The nightmares are beginning to subside
|
| jpattern2 | 06 Feb 2013 1:35 p.m. PST |
Pretty sure it was the Ram Theater in Chapel Hill, NC. Followed by a few rentals over the years. |
| Little Big Wars | 06 Feb 2013 1:43 p.m. PST |
Wyrd Science Fiction and Fantasy Club movie night, some time during the 2003-2004 school year. The Star Wars Christmas special is still worse

I don't remember, in fact, that whole year is fuzzy. Guess it really did a number on my cortex. |
| Pijlie | 06 Feb 2013 2:13 p.m. PST |
Sometime in the 90ies on TCM I think. |
| Jakar Nilson | 06 Feb 2013 2:47 p.m. PST |

Princeton cinemas. a new concept in theaters
TWO screens! It changed my life. |
M1Fanboy | 06 Feb 2013 3:19 p.m. PST |
Late night on AMC
and I wondered what the hell so many here saw in that mess
Then I just embraced it as the TMP mascot, shrugged, and moved on. |
Shagnasty | 06 Feb 2013 3:52 p.m. PST |
At one of the first run theaters in Galveston. I'd watch almost anything in those halcyon days. Anyone remember "Naked Under Leather" with Maryann Faithful? I've got friends who still give me a bad time about that. |
| charared | 06 Feb 2013 6:14 p.m. PST |
A looooong gone old-time "theater" in downtown Brooklyn off of Fulton Street. Yep, I had the pleasure of seeing this first run wif' several buddies. Kinda liked it at the time
then again, ANY pseudo sci-fi "deep" message movie was worth a night or so of discussion among amigos (as long as there was PLENTY of "Boone's Farm" and "Old English" to lubricate the tongue if not the brain!) |

Arrrgh! The first one with its alternate name. Horrible! |
Raynman | 06 Feb 2013 9:23 p.m. PST |
Woodbridge, VA. I was a senior in high school. I saw it with my chums. |
| britishlinescarlet2 | 07 Feb 2013 2:42 a.m. PST |
Channel 4 some when in the 80's. Late at night when I had come back from the pub. |
| asa1066 | 07 Feb 2013 7:16 a.m. PST |
CityTV (Toronto) late night movie sometime in the mid-80's. David S. |
| Old Slow Trot | 07 Feb 2013 7:39 a.m. PST |
Only watched clips from it. |
| Jovian1 | 07 Feb 2013 8:34 a.m. PST |
After too many drive-by Zardozings, I found the film on line for a pittance, picked it up, downloaded it and watched it. I won't get my money back, or the time spent watching it. |
| OldGrenadier at work | 07 Feb 2013 9:15 a.m. PST |
NC State University used to have late night showings of 'cult classics' back in the 70's. I caught it then. Having seen it once, it is not neccessary to see it again. |
| Patrick R | 07 Feb 2013 11:05 a.m. PST |
TV mid to late seventies. I didn't like it much. |
| Tom Bryant | 08 Feb 2013 12:55 a.m. PST |
Sometime in the mid to late 80's on WKBD TV-50 out of Detroit on it's Saturday night horror/sci-fi film show (Son of Svengoolie?). Truly solidifed my admiration on Sean Connery as a great actor. |
| Ron W DuBray | 09 Feb 2013 4:34 p.m. PST |
I saw it on TV way back when 80 to 86. I think I got through 15min before I turned it off and have never even had a passing thought of trying to watch it again. |
| 138SquadronRAF | 09 Feb 2013 9:26 p.m. PST |
Sometime in the later 1970's on late night tv. Didn't like it then, still don't like it. |
Parzival | 09 Feb 2013 11:02 p.m. PST |
Never. The still of Connery in the red bikini diaper and one clip of the, uh, "viewing" scene were enough to warn me off. |
| Bowman | 17 Feb 2013 5:08 p.m. PST |
I seem to be one of the few on TMP who actually like it (and no, I'm not kidding). I'm with you 20th. Even a weak Boorman film is way more interesting than the comic book superhero drivel being produced today. |
| Phil DAmato | 28 Feb 2013 10:16 a.m. PST |
I believe I saw it the first time on HBO or Showtime in the late 70's. I don't think the movie is all that bad but then again I love bad movies. Phil |
| Old Slow Trot | 01 Mar 2013 7:37 a.m. PST |
Unsure, but RiffTrax may have done a version of it not too long ago. |
piper909 | 29 Apr 2013 11:39 a.m. PST |
In 1976 or 1977, at college (Austin), at a repertoire house near campus. Hail, Zardoz! The trailer is really very far-out. If you have the DVD, you can just watch that and get the entire experience in about three minutes. |
| Great War Ace | 30 Apr 2013 3:36 p.m. PST |
I have never seen it. TMP comprises 99+% of my exposure to this comedic travesty interluded into Connery's career. I do have a pic in "My Pictures" screen-saver of Connery's Webley (was it a Webley? I think it was a Webley) and red diapers and sexy booties, however
