I ask that you do not just provide a Youtube link, but name the song and singers, Also, WHY it's "perfect"! Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston, "It Takes Two" YouTube link I think Kim's voice is superb, especially the way she slides into and out of her verses with "Yeah
" The band, particularly the drums, is also great. Marvin is no slouch, either. The song is about the pure enjoyment of being together. What surprises me is that I first heard it on an "Oldies" show, and not on the Mighty 590 rock and roll station. Digging into it a bit, I encountered studio politics, which is a shame. "Researching" it on Youtube, I found some more Kim Weston songs, particularly the first release of "Take me in your arms", which the Doobie Brothers did a fine cover of. It's too bad Kim was not a bigger star, at least in my area. Love her voice. |

Gladys Knight and the Pips -Midnight Train to Georgia YouTube link Lyrically and melodically strong and impeccably produced. The instrumentation is superb. Backing strings and Hammond organ with an acoustic piano to the fore, restrained horn section, and some subtle but brilliant color from a Fender Stratocaster and Hohner Clavinet. Not a single superfluous note. Vocally, it's even better. Tone, phrasing and dynamics are all spot one, not just with the lyrics proper, but every single "mmm", "yeah", and my favorite, "oooh y'all". There is literally nothing you could do to improve this recording. By the way, Gladys recorded this in one take. That's musicianship. |

The Ronettes, "Be My Baby," August 1963 YouTube link Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_My_Baby One of the best examples of Phil Spector's "wall of sound." Lead vocals by Ronnie Spector, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. Backup vocals by Darlene Love and Sonny & Cher, among others. Hal Blaine's drum opening gets you up on your feet as soon as you hear it. The song has been covered by dozens of artists, and has influenced hundreds more. Used in movie and TV soundtracks. Cameo (lyrics and Ronnie herself) in Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight." Everything perfect should have one flaw. In the case of this song, that flaw is the aforementioned Phil Spector, a musical genius and second-degree murderer who wears really, really bad wigs. |

I have loved this one ever since the first time I stumbled across it on YouYube. YouTube link I was just following links. Probably from pr through Steve Goodman. It's John Prine and Iris Demint, "In Spite of Ourselves". It's just plain funny, and I love the salt of the earth people they sing about. Accepting of each other, and happy. |

Bernard Fanning – 'Watch Over Me' YouTube link I love the simple acoustic style of this song. There is something about minor chords that just send shivers through me. When I listen to the words, it fills me with love and gratitude for Mr P, and for many people who have helped me in my life. Lyrically, I like that the song is whole. Not just a lot of cutesy lines, that you think will take you somewhere but don't. It is one of my favourite songs. |

The happiest song I can think of, the one that gets my blood pumping and brings a big grin to my face every time I hear it, is an instrumental: The finale of Rossini's William Tell Overture, aka The Lone Ranger's Theme. YouTube link Set speakers to 11! I'm not even a big Lone Ranger fan, but this just *feels* like a cavalry charge across the open plains. |
