What did I do? I was trying to run my camera and printer on my son's computer last night, and suddenly I lost sound! I confess that I was messing around with the Control Panel in my ignorance, but have no clue what I did. Help the ignorant, please. |

If you want something other than smarmy remarks, it would help to identify the type of computer, operating system, and remember what you were futzing with. Without that, I would recommend rebooting, as you might have only temporarily disabled the driver
and maybe the computer will try to "fix" itself upon reboot. If you want smarmy remarks
have you looked in the fridge? I always find stuff I lose in the fridge!
mine is over by Currituck. (You need some SE USA geography to get this one
Currituck Sound is in NC. I'm sure you can tailor this to most non landlocked localities).
if you still have your hale, you should be able to muddle through.

It's always worth checking the obvious – on the control panel or from the start bar check what the volume setting is – you may have muted all or even just turned the sound down to zero. If it is muted the little speaker icon on the start bar will have a diagonal red line through it. |

What those guys said, and have you checked in Long Island? |

Turn it off and then switch it back on. That seems to sort out most pooter problems. |

(I am assuming OFM is using Windows and not a Mac) Turn it off and then switch it back on. That seems to sort out most pooter problems. Not if the volume is muted though. In MS Windows the volume setting stays even with a reboot. Also, it can be something as simple as the speaker line getting unplugged by accident as OFM might be trying to plug in and unplug the camera/printer. Finally, the worse case is the device driver for the sound card has been disabled or removed. That can be checked by looking in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware and click on the "Device Manager" button, and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks under the "Sound, video and game controllers" category. And my smart- answer: "Sir, do you have a 10 year old in the house? Let him/her take a look and usually they can fix it in a minute." |

"Sir, do you have a 10 year old in the house? Let him/her take a look and usually they can fix it in a minute." He's 23 and serving in Kuwait. you may have muted all or even just turned the sound down to zero. If it is muted the little speaker icon on the start bar will have a diagonal red line through it. Ahah! And, to test it I went to YouTube linkWould someone tell the yo-yo on guitat I didn't come here to look at him. |
