I can guarantee that every night in my area will be cloudy as long as the damn thing is visible.
It happens for eclipses, aurorae, meteor showers…
The latest such was the alleged conjunction/occultation of Jupiter and the Moon that supposedly happened Christmas night. It hasn't been clear since the day before, and has snowed every day.

So it's supposed to be brighter than the moon and they only just spotted it?

It's stealthy.

They need to come up with a better name. I know comets are named after their discoverers, but ISON? Really? You'll never capture the public fancy with that appellation.

I thought the same thing about the name. What a terrible name. Call it the Gremetsky comet or something like that. Name it after the guy that signed for the delivery of the telescope they found it with or even the guy that brought the lunch the day they did. Anything other than that.

I can see the doomsayer press now, particularly since it will allegedly be spectacular in exactly one year.

Same here John. I live less than a mile form Lake Michigan as the crow flies and it doesn't matter what neat stuff is going on in the sky I seem to miss it. Still I did get lucky enough to see Hale-Bopp when it when past, cauaght one Auroral display and Christmas night I did get to see the conjunction of the Moon and Jupiter through a cold hazy sky. Keep your chin up John you may get lucky also.

Working in Alaska since February it was August before I got to see the aurora.

Fro some reason whether on the East or West Slope in Colorado or in central Alaska clouds rule whenever there is an astronomical display.
