We came out of it and wondered "is there any real point to 3D?". There were a couple of waves, and a few fades in and out that looked
I was going to say spectacular, but really "clever" is enough praise. And it seemed a long film (shorter than The Hobbit – which flew by and seemed like quite a short film). Overall quite pretty, but rather
dull. Or am I wrong ? Did I miss the wonder and the mystery ? |

Well, the novel seemed rather drawn-out, too

Beautiful movie! One of the prettiest I've ever seen. I missed the wonder and mystery too! Did I mention that it was pretty? |

my wife went in with high hopes for this film, her rather terse review, "well that was bollix". |

Ignored the 3D version and went to see the 2D version. Enjoyed it, though it is bonkers in places. |

We enjoyed it but then it was just my wife and I as we let the kids at home. Didn't notice the time, thought 3D worked well. No complaints. |

Loved this film. Beautiful cinematography and engrossing story in spite of the movie's length. |

My wife and I don't go to many movies. She wanted to see this one, based on what friends had said, I guess. So, I went. We came in on the end, from the island of the carnivorous algae. It wasn't 3D. Turns out we were in the wrong theater?! Grr. Went into the right theater and came in where they were onboard the ship getting the cook's assistant bleeped off. It was 3D, which I enjoyed once the action at sea took over. Watched it until we came to the island of carnivorous algae, then went back to the non 3D theater to catch the beginning, which we mostly did, coming in where Pi is starting to tell his story to the writer. I liked the film okay, but what was it's point? Beats me

I see that "cook's assistant" should be changed to "cook", Gérard Depardieu, an excellent bit part. On further reflection, I think what I liked about it was its "Big Fish", "Radio Flyer" quality. "And so it goes with God", was the point: the story Pi remembered, or rather chose to believe in, was the carnivorous-algae-and-Tiger-companion-version, not the terse one where the cook had killed Pi's mother in revenge for Pi's father's earlier assault on his character and person, and Pi killed the cook in revenge, etc. Oh, I had one technical note of dissent: the goat tied OUTSIDE the bars of the cage for Richard Parker to kill: how did the tiger get the whole goat inside the bars of the cage to drag off? Why didn't they simply tie the goat inside the cage, then raise the inner grate to let the tiger out? Silly mistake, that
