In my neighborhood, we've had 2 sinkholes, both around 100ft from my house. There was a 3rd that happened in the neighbors yard, but that was due to a leaky sewer pipe. The others were not. But I live in Pennsylvanai, which gets sinkholes from time to time

No. But the top layers can become unstable due to a number of processes. I can tell you about them in big science words as that is my area of science (although I have more interest in igneous rocks rather than the boring sedimentary rubbish that is important in the oil industry) Most of the time its the result of water draining from the rock due to draining of natural aquifers by man, causing the interstices in the rock to become unstable due to a different medium (air) intruding and then such prolonged drying creates collapse, slumping, settling. Sometimes boundary liquid flow where one material slides on another causing a slip occurs, and sometimes near surface freeze thaw enables other types of movement to occur at depth. |

Now, now. I thought everyone here was fully aware of the true nature of our planet and its secret interior. Have the science and history of Pellucidar completely fallen from our knowledge? And here I thought I was among educated peers.
