Microsoft seem to have a policy with OSs. Each alternate one is a lemon. XP good, Vista Rubbish, 7 good, 8 rubbish. |

Search for and install classic shell from sourceforge. It will make 8 a lot more familiar. It's a frustrating release, the under the hood changes are absolutely stellar, truly an improvement over windows 7 (which is great) but the UI choices--the mishmash of metro and the desktop--is insanity driven by a marketing department that is envious of Apple's app store. The entire thing is built to drive developers so that they make applications for metro (the RTM part of windows 8) which can only be installed and sold through the microsoft store. |

I have not tried Windows 8 yet so I can't comment on the hows or whys just yet. It would be good to remember that many of the things said about Windows 8 were also said about XP when it first came out. Now a decade later we miss the good old days of XP. |

Dude it took XP 3 years before it would run the other 1/2 of the hardware on the market when it came out. |
