Printing Scenario Maps with Poster Software

You've got a scenario map, and you need to create some hills. Is there some way to just print out the map in very large scale, so you can trace the outline of the hills you need to build? The Editor finds out...

If the company can't put out a notice in less than 14 days, what hope is there for their computers?

High Court in London ruled in July that the Samsung Galaxy Tab was not "cool" enough to be confused with Apple's iPad

You know, that's kinda funny.

I have loved my macs for the past 25 years. My PCs were okay. It depends on the work you do on the computer. Macs have always been better for graphics and design.

So, there is a lot of hope.

Mac have BluRay yet?

nazrat01 Nov 2012 12:23 p.m. PST

Completely different issues. Samsung has lost numerous copyright infringement cases around the world to Apple. Apple seems to be acting (stupidly) stubborn with the one which Samsung did win. This has NOTHING to do with the quality of Apple products, which is far above any of their competitors.

sunderland01 Nov 2012 1:18 p.m. PST

Yes, the samsung parts in iphones are better than the samsung parts in samsung phones.

No, but I hear they have an adapter for your 8-track tapes and BetaVision movies.

Hey! there's a judge called sir robin! Surely he is teased mercilessly by the other judges behind closed doors! laugh

Apple computers are overpriced and can't handle databases as a client. Graphics used to be a very strong point, but I don't know if that's necessarily true anymore.

Then my intro to the iPad a year ago was by some doofus who figured I should set one up to allow our techs to collect information on high voltage equipment. Yeah, the iPad as a data collection device, that went well.

With respect to iPhones, well, I was not particularly impressed by the Bleeped text triple press of the button that got you into gosh darn talking mode (an acessiblity option) in a public place unexpectedly. What clueless light bulb came up with that? You can turn it off of course, but what a stupid default for a new user. Oh and the headphones? The little tab thing is a wonderful feature, but what the blazes are they congratulating themselves in the new commercials for the new shape after causing people headaches and sore ears for years with a large hard plastic ear piece?

Not an Apple fan at all for computers, but came to enjoy my iphone and, eventually, ipads.

In other news Apple have said they are not putting DVD or BlueRay drives in their new computers. It is old technology they say which is detrimental to a computer as they may jam and unnecessary size to Apple machines.

It has nothing to do with the fact they get no money from people playing films on their machines….

….however, you can download the same movies from iTunes for a price to play on your shiny Apple machine. Funny that!!

Mr Elmo02 Nov 2012 4:07 a.m. PST

It is old technology

I'd have to agree. I think the only time I ever used my Mac's optical drive was when parallels came on CD. Even the actual Windows files were a mounted ISO file.

The Mac software and OS updates have all been downloads.

Blu-ray players cost $70 USD-90. Get one and hook it to a TV and quit whining. Geez, I for one wouldn't watch a movie on something as small as a computer screen to begin with. (And if I'm on a flight, I read a book.)

The only reason I have right now for not buying an Apple is that they aren't shipping the new iMac until mid-November. They're killing me here! grin

So backing up your data in a largely unalterable form has become "old technology"?

Utter tripe…

Why not buy an apple?
Because they are overpriced and not any better then what others have for sale. They only come in white.:) also they don't have anything I want or need.
I don't need or want a phone that sucks at making phone calls and needs to be recharged everyday. A phone with internet or texting. I don't need or want a computer with a screen smaller then 17". I don't need or want a MP3 player that cost more then the $35 USD 4gig one I own.
I will stop now but the list is way longer.

Apple are overpriced, but you are buying an OS that works on the kit it is made for. Windows isn't too bad these days, although Windows 8 looks like it is going to be one of the worst pieces of cack to every go onto a computer since Windows ME.
I have my PC for gaming, and know I have to put up with an enferior, bloated more complicated OS. I use my Mac for browsing and general work as it's reliable and (even though I have been in IT for 15 yrs so it's not like I am a luddite) it is a damn site easier to use and maintain.

I reccomend an Apple to people who are 'scared' of computers or not really used one before as I know it's less likely to get problems, and it's easier for the end user to just get on with things. No it's not perfect but when you have to support end users who are likely to do something stupid (most end users in other words) I like to have less work to do ;-) (this is all outside of work where unfortunately we are stuck with Windows and Dell).

Speak for yourself. Most consumer (and business) users have no need for "unalterable backups." What with cloud technology, flash drives and even terabyte external hard drives easily and cheaply available, why bother storing backup data on a CD-ROM that doesn't even have a tenth of the data capacity currently available on an entry-level computer's hard drive? And if you want transportable data, a key-ring flash drive with multi-gigabyte capacity can be purchased at a discount store for about $10. USD
But if you actually need unalterable archive data storage, you can buy an external optical burner for $80. USD
But it's only the consumer, entry-level models that don't have the internal optical drive, anyway. The higher-end models intended for commercial use still do.

Little Big Wars03 Nov 2012 12:10 p.m. PST

I don't speak for myself… I speak for every other computer user that builds their own kit (everyone who plays PC games, essentially). I don't know anyone who would build a rig without an RW drive of some sort, and most have a standard optical as well. With the price of blank Blu-rays and their burners coming down, it'd be silly not to make use of the new tech.

The people I can't speak for are the LCD who are dumb or lazy enough to buy their desktops off the shelf.

freewargamesrules03 Nov 2012 3:33 p.m. PST

I've been running Linux for years. Its free has good support. It has a start button (unlike the windows 8). For people who are into computers you can customise it and help to develop the OS.

When you update the software it updates all the software including third party software. I would never go back to windows and would certainly not give my money to Apple. Lots of annoyed owners who bought an iPad and then a new one came out 7 months later.

Whatever. I use my computer for work. Gaming is at best a tertiary activity, and of very little importance to me. Though I have a decent level of technical know-how, I much prefer to alot my time to writing, research and occasional layout design and let someone else be my mechanic. To each his own.

'Lots of annoyed owners who bought an iPad and then a new one came out 7 months later.'

this, as annoying as it is, can also be applied to almost any company, especially tech companies.

Yeah, I've been on the "sudden obsolescence" side of many products— computers, phones, stereos, cameras, cars…
Heck, they do that with miniatures!!!

This has NOTHING to do with the quality of Apple products, which is far above any of their competitors.

Um, you do know that there is no actual difference between Apple and PC hardware. Literally nothing. Built in the same factories from the same parts. Some have Apple logos put on, some have Dell, etc…
