"America's Beirut". Appalling and sad.

All my comments would get me a trip to the DH.

So instead, I'll just say

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Seriously though, Detroit has been the proverbial canary in the coal mine for the American urban condition for quite awhile…

Weird, because as bad as Detroit is, Flint is worse.

Spoke to a trucker in Florida. He said that his insurance won't cover his cargo if he's not out of Detroit before 23:00.

Moved out of Michigan nearly a decade ago. It was either that or start shooting. The place is a garbage pit.

Well, it depends. If I had a 16 year old daughter I wouldn't want here wandering around there carelessly. I wouldn't be too happy about my wife being there alone, either.

OTOH, I've never had any problems myself in any of America's "post-apocalypse practice zones" like Detroit, Camden, etc. Driving around in my giant old domestic cars I don't really bother anyone or look like easy money.

Has it changed since the 70s or I'm I blind to things around me?

Of my working visits to the USA the series of visits to Detroit in 1974 were the most acceptable that I've had.

Was the guy who was beheaded in Chuck05's You Tube link then sentenced to torture?

Yes. The clip is from Kentucky Fried Movie. Its a great film made by the Zuckker brothers. They did Airplane and Top Secret.
