Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked 35 US cities on a several different topics, good and bad.

This link shows a map of US and you can see how that city rated. The site also allows for each catagory to be viewed and how it was rated by a vistor and a resident.

NYC rated #1 in:

Theater/performance art (#1)
Diverse (#1)
Stylish (#1)
Classical music (#1)
Luxury stores (#1)

but also:

THE WORST…
Peace and quiet (#35)
Affordability (#35)
Cleanliness (#35)
Friendly (#35)

Most Friendly:

#1: New Orleans

I've ALWAYS had a good time in the Big Easy.

Nowhere in Ohio or West Virginia even made the list. Pittsburgh didn't make the list either.

And yet there are two Portlands on there! Where is the justice?

I've lived in so many cities it's ridiculous. None are worth it. I'll stay out in the country.

Nashville did quite well.

Live music and concerts: #2 Duh.

Friendly: #3 Southern hospitality and country neighborliness rolled into one place. Y'all come on down and visit a spell!

Barbecue: #6. Yep. There's some good cooked pig in these parts.

Affordability: #3. And life and living well are even more affordable in the outlying towns. Low taxes, good living.

Proud of their city: #8 Lots to be proud of.

WORSE:
Ethnic foods #30: I suppose that's fair, though we do have some nice little places that serve a variety of ethnic foods. Just not what you'd find in NYC or LA.

Luxury stores #26: What, y'all don't count designer cowboy boot boutiques and rhinestone jacket outlets as luxury shopping? wink

Fine dining #26: We'd rather eat barbecue anyhow.

OK, now. The BEST of Dallas-Fort Worth:

"Sports-crazed" – happens when your premier team is worth $2.1 USD billion (but do we really want to be recognized for that??).

"Luxury stores" – that would be more Dallas's way, with the Galleria, Highland Park Village, etc, although we here in Tarrant County have The Parks at Arlington and North East Mall (in Hurst).

"Barbecue" – yeah, we can compete with (and "whup"!) the rest of the former Confederacy with some pretty tasty barbeque! wink

"Winter" – what's that? (and I wish we had more of that here frown)

Now, the WORST:

"Offbeat" – hey, we're ALL a little crazy, OK?

"Public transportation and pedestrian friendliness" – and it's gonna get worse for the immediate foreseeable future thanks to some long-overdue upgrades and expansions to several major expressways.

"Microbrew beer" – Trivial. Not worth talking about.

Well, I'd say we're pretty average, but you can't lend any credence to lists like these. All you gotta do is come out and judge for yourself. grin

Philadelphia is not all that friendly, but it IS "sports crazed".
I guess they must have intervewed Cowboys fans at Iggles games. Those that survived, that is.

Crazed? More like rabid! And yeah, we don't take kindly to Cowboys/Giants/Redskins fans on our home turf.

And we have a slew of tourists in and around Center City at any given time, so it must be somewhat friendly!

Philadelphia is not all that friendly, but it IS "sports crazed".

As one long-time local sports talk show personality calls it, "the City of Brotherly Shove".
