Just got back from the cinema. This film is good. No, it's very good. One of the best comic adaptations I've seen. Karl Urban is Dredd. I really enjoyed it. Yes it's more gritty and the violence more realistic than the Stallone version – but it's believable. The film starts with Dredd doing what he does best – chasing down perps and dispensing justice. Then it's into the main body of the film where Ma-Ma takes over a City Block and basically declares war on Dredd and Anderson. City Blocks are the home to thousands of downtrodden masses. And yes, Dredd and the Justice Dept is undermanned and overstretched. There's lots of gaming material in this. The trademark Dredd humour is there and there are plenty of Dredd comic references. My personal favourite is the film poster for the Chrysler Mark. There's also a Hottie stand and reference to Fergee on the news channel. All in all, for what it's worth I recommend this film (I'm still buzzing an hour after seeing it!!!). |

I just watched it. I think it was great. I loved the violence in it and the story line was believable. I was a bit worried when I heard a description of the plot but those worries were unfounded. Best Dredd movie yet! |

Good movie with mostly favorable critical reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but it disappointed at the box office so it's unlikely there'll be a sequel. It's pretty much the original 'Die Hard' in a future setting. link |
