I know the UK now has laws on disposing and deregistering of cars.

Has anyone done this recently and if so what's the process please and is there anyhting to watch out for?

Thanks

1. File off/remove all Vehicle Identification numbers.
2. Remove license plate, registration and personal effects.
3. Park in "Tow Away Zone."
4. Casually walk away.
Vehicle scrapped!

Take all personal stuff out of car. Leave doors unlocked and key in the ignition, car stolen then scrapped

First, you have to remember to re-register it to someone "else" like an ex-wife. Then, find a nice car park, say the one for Heathrow, and park it there.

On the council estate where my brother lives the traditonal solution is:
1) Park car on estate
2) Hand local kids £5.00 GBP and a box of matches
3) Walk away
4) Since car is now a burnt out hulk rather than a functional but abandoned car, the council will pay for it to be towed to the scrapyard

I took my Mondeo to the local Scrap Metal place and got £175.00 GBP

With scrap and used car prices as high as they are in the US, if you have the title you can get decent money at either a used parts yard or a crusher.

And without a title some yards will run the VIN to check that it hasn't been reported stolen and still will take it.

Prices were over 300.00 a ton a while back at the crusher and even better at the used parts yards for popular models with reasonably straight bodies.

Frankly, I got as much for a couple of old vehicles as I paid for them many years ago. My old pickup is worth more.
