OK, Watched it. Loved it. Considering sharing it on Facebook, but I'm not sure that I want to listen to Murphy and Sholo's snarky comments

Why would Murphy"s and Sholo's comments be any snarkier there than here? That was neat too. |

Uh
Okay, I get that there are/were a bunch of Japanese shows with essentially the same concept as Power Rangers (whichever was first), endlessly repeating, and this is either an homage, a video celebration, a new show* based on the previous ones, or
or I don't know what. (Especially as I don't speak Japanese.) I only ever got into Ultraman (which I saw on the rare Sunday mornings I was too sick for Sunday School) and Space Giants, and the various "teens in primary-colored tights" shows were after my time. (*Power Pirates, perhaps?) |

Basically, what we know as Power Rangers were in fact Zuurangers, a 90s instalment of the long running Super-Sentai franchise. Following Power Ranger series would adapt following Super Sentai series, with cast differences (of course) and new plots. Gokaiger is the latest series, with a pirate theme. It's also an anniversary series, with plenty of cameos, but the team also has the power to use the powers and suits of previous teams. I wonder what the Power Rangers adaptation will be like

Yes, a pirate theme. Some kind of pirate theme, at least. :) I kind like the video. Very catchy and colorful. |

.like Voltron, TMNT, Transformers (another inFAMOUS Japanese series 'americanized')
GI Joe

Okay, time for Super Sentai 101: Jakar above is pretty accurate: Gokaiger is the most recently wrapped up series (Sentai shows usually last 45-51 episodes, and each is it's own story) and was the 35th show in the Super Sentai franchise. The song that goes with this video is actually a stitching together of the three versions of Gokaiger's EP (ending piece, i.e. the song in the credits) which lists all the Super Sentai teams in order
this version goes above and beyond however by adding the Gokaigers to the list and adding Go-Busters, the current team. If you're curious about this unique form of entertainment, Stop by my fave website on the subject 'TV-Nihon' tvnihon.com where great gobs of the stuff is available for free download, subtitled for your viewing pleasure ;) |
