You haven't bought him a present have you? 'cos If you have I have some bad news for you…

I have to say Darles Chickens is my LEAST favourite old-timey author, with his awful cod cockney and his lovable but entrely non-human characters called 'Mr Sticklebrick' or "Lady Fuzzyfelt" and all of the urchins. If pushed I might instead detest Thomas Hardy more, maybe.

But 'appy HBirthday Hindeed hto Hyou Hmister Hdickens, Gawd stripe me weeskit.

Living in Kent as I do, I'll be glad when all this fuss dies down. It's all the local radio and TV station can talk about.

My partner and I have disliked Dickens since force fed his prose at school some 30 years ago.
