why does every character/super group have 10-25 monthly book titles? Avengers had literally 20 at least, not including the titles for the members. ended up buying a single hardcover collection, the colected 5 issue run of "Invaders Now" from Marvel. Invaders were always one of my favorite comics

Seriously! I took my son to get a "spider man" comic. Just a freaking spider man comic. It took 30 minutes to choose between the 20 or so different current series. Sheesh. |

Either the market has expanded so far it can support this, or the hardcore have got so hardcore the publishers can effectively milk them on a monthly basis. Either way it's totally Serpico. |

Back in the 90's, I started buying X-men comics to share with my youngest son. After a few months I had to give it up as I couldn't keep track of the storyline with all the tangents spinning off into their own thread. |

I lost track in the 80s! Secret Wars pretty much did me in. |

I love the graphic novel selection these days. Went to a comic store in the spring for the first time in about 10 years as well. The new Kindle Fire is supposed to come loaded with 100 DC graphic novels, including the entire Sandman run and Watchmen. Should be pretty neat. |

Comics these days are just one major event after another, some of these can run into the hundreds of issues. There are few standalone comics these days, as the publishers are trying to trick you into buying as many comics as possible. |

that was why I didn't walk out with a couple of Avengers comics
because to follow the plotline, I would have had to buy 40 comics and read them in a specific order.. ? |

Comic book industry is alive and well in small town Leighton Buzzard. A New Comic store just opened after years with a comic book market stall. The owners have "expanded". :) |

I would have had to buy 40 comics and read them in a specific order They've been doing that for years. Decades, even. The first one I remember was the Avengers-Defenders War, some time in the 70s. The crossovers didn't get truly massive until the late 80s, but Marvel has been running their universe as close to one huge Crossover as they can manage now for about five-six years. |
