I've got an Epson Perfection flatbed scanner that I can't use, due to Epson not providing drivers for Windows 7 64, but do offer Widows 7 32 bit drivers. The FAQ suggests VueScan and while it does work, I need to purchase the Standard Edition, with a free year of updates for ~ $40.00 USD or the Professional, with lifetime free updates for ~ $80.00 USD in order to remove the prominent watermark that ruins the scan. I like the software and think the Professional is worth it, but would like to know is there a free alternative that's almost as good? I've had to purchase for Windows 7, after realizing that Windows XP 64 is garbage.
One option to circumvent the watermark is to preview the scan(s) and then using an image capture program saving the image then editing it. The problem is that it's time consuming, especially for more than two pages, and the image isn't clear enough for printing.
For ~ $80.00 USD , I could buy another flatbed scanner that's Win7 64bit compatible, but this one still works and it's not LED, unlike most of the versions available today, so I could scan 3D objects, like plastic sprues.

There's a Vista 64 version, but Windows 7 is an improvement in many ways.

You should just be able to use the Windows 7 32 bit drivers or the Vista 64 bit drivers without any problems.

When I said Vista 64 Bit drivers are available, I think I confused it with something else. According to Epson, there are no 64 bit drivers for Vista. Unfortunately the 32 Bit drivers are incompatible with 64 – tried installing/un-installing twice. Found this thread, Epson Perfection 1260 scanner, no W7 driver from 2010 on the Windows 7 community forum and no real solution. I don't think I'm qualified enough to install and run virtual mode.
