Totally – I've always liked Fred Mcaulay's bit on how he'd love to be the barman wherever Michaael O'Leary drinks: "Pint of lager please." "Certainly, that's 49 pence. Why yes, that does *seem* cheap. Oh you'll be wanting a glass for it

Yep. I have found the trick with super cheap flights is to take a carry on bag only. Even with all the extras, they are still as cheap as chips. I've done Singapore to HCM for $0. USD Which after taxes came to 80 dollars Sing, or maybe $US 50 bucks. Not $0, but darn cheap. Mind you, I once got to the airport and found the flight was cancelled and they did not make it easy to get a refund. For 50 bucks I didn't bother. But I did have to hoof it to Terminal 1 and get a very expensive last minute Singapore Airlines flight. |

Yup, that was exactly my experience of flying with Ryanair last month. I also presume that they were trying to save on tyre-wear by only putting one wheel down at a time
They were obviously only paying Birmingham International for half the runway, as the effing pilot didn't touch-down until BEYOND the terminal building and then had to slam the brakes on before we ran into the city! I swear there was a braking drogue and possibly an anchor deployed during that landing

You too? It seems that is standard practice. Although I did once fly the shuttle (not RyanAir) up north, and was slightly alarmed at the sound of reverse coming on just before the wheels contacted ground. Didn't half stop quick. :-) |

You should try being in a C17 when they do that from 30,000 feet! Who said that the Harrier was the only vertical=landing plane in our inventory

Reasons not to fly with budget airlines #459. Ryanair are a true exemplar of the old line "you get what you pay for". Not that BA are much better. Conversely, coming back from Paris a few years back our flight was overbooked. The Air France check in staff guaranteed us a seat on the next flight to Birmingham (2 hours later), refunded 50% of the ticket price and gave us vouchers for food and drink anywhere in CDG. I didn't even have to haggle. I thought that was pretty damn good for an economy class short haul flight. Back to the OP, I saw Dilly Keane and Fascinating Aida a couple of times back in the late 80s. They're bloody funny. |
