I have found only two "wild" or "adventure" cave tours in the Mammoth Cave area. Neither of which my family can participate in.

The Mammoth Cave Introduction to Caving tour is out since my ribs cannot contract 2 inches to meet the maximum hip and chest requirements. OK, they can, but only once and my sternum would not be happy – which would not make me happy.

Hidden River Cave has one, but my 11-year-old does not meet their minimum age limit of 12.

We will partake in a few walking cave tours – including Mammoth Cave – but we want to get a little dirty, too.

Can anyone point us in the right direction?

I can't comment, but I've been wanting to go to Mammoth Cave for years. My family owned land on the park site (lost during the Depression) and the family cemeteries and church still reside there. Hope you guys have a great trip.

They do have a 6 hour tour that includes a cafeteria about half way through in a large cavern. I would strongly suggest this one as in the shorter tours they tend to rush you through. there are a couple of tight spots along the way, and generally you will get to see a lot more. After 6 hours, you may be done.
