If John the OFM, Plynkes, Connard Sage and Oh were to attack me in the street and spend ten minutes teasing me, stealing my lunch-money, insulting my wife and then beat me to an inch of my life, and the Police asked me 'did you know any of these people?' I would have to say 'Never seen them in my life, but one of them looked real funny' And yet I probably share as many conversations with some of them as I do with my real friends. What would I call them? Is there a word for this sort of Internet Aquaintance? A 'Net-Pal'? Sounds a bit gay frankly. 'Intermate' and 'Electrochum' are surely made of washable Latex and only available in shops you find in back streets. What is the word you would use to describe someone you speak to every couple of days but who you would not know from Adam? Pat |

'Net-Pal'? Sounds a bit gay frankly if the shoe fits

.make sure you disinfect it before insertion. We obviously read the same Manuals Ravenscraft. Pat |
| Connard Sage | 23 Dec 2010 7:20 a.m. PST |
You can call me 'sir'
or 'mate', or 'Jeff', or ' '. I'm easy. If you want to be a nerd, just add 'e' – 'e-mate'. Though if you do, be assured that if we ever do meet I'll definitely nick your dinner money |

I'm easy That's not what Ravenscraft Cybernetics said. Pat |

"I'm easy." That is what I read on the stall wall in the bathroom. |
| Connard Sage | 23 Dec 2010 7:49 a.m. PST |
See? I told you. I left myself open there. er

He's a colonial, what does he know? Ungrateful rebellion against the Kingdom that had just saved his cowardly ass from the French? Turning up late for Wars and then shooting the wrong people? Pat |

Ooooh controversy.
^that's the most useless popcorn smiley icon thingy in the world, ever. |

Taking the OP seriously (probably a mistake, but that's who I am, derrr): I agree with the Editor. Acquaintance covers most of my relationships on TMP. I think of those I get along with particularly well as my Virtual Friends. Real World is better. There's a level I can't get past with a Virtual Friend, and I try to actualize the friendship when I can. |
| Sane Max | 23 Dec 2010 9:12 a.m. PST |
well, I just don't think ACQUAINTANCE quite covers it – I am no more acquainted with you than I am with the callers to a late night Radio Phone-In Show. We spout off in the same area of the internet, that doesn't make us acquainted. Pat |
| Connard Sage | 23 Dec 2010 9:14 a.m. PST |
WILL YOU ALL STOP BLOODY SHOUTING? |

I always say "some guy I talk to on the internet." What it lacks in brevity it makes up in something something. |

In conversations, I use the moniker "TMPer" or "a buddy on TMP"

The people I personally know from TMP are friends. The ones I've not met face to face are friends in waiting. |
| pphalen | 23 Dec 2010 3:48 p.m. PST |
I use "Net Buddy" which is just as gay as most of the rest of this conversation! However, it is much less pretentious than "Fellow netizen" so I stick with it

I've changed my mind PUT E-CONNARD SAGE ON THE HIGHER HOOK !!!!! LOL winky smiley face etc (and why is anyone worried about sounding " a bit gay", for goodness sake we're talking about pushing plastic or metal miniatures around following strict and detailed rules on how to do so. Let's not worry about sounding "a bit gay", we're more likely to be accussed of sounding "a bit mad" ) |
| StarfuryXL5 | 23 Dec 2010 7:08 p.m. PST |
