My brother-in-law is on his second business trip to Malta. Is there anything worth sending him out to get? The place is horribly over-priced in the tourist areas, but I would think that might be something worth picking up.

Besides the Crusader Hoard or a piece of the True Cross.

…I have some lovely glass from Mdina, in marbled shades. Silver filigree jewellry is popular, as is Gold work, and so are embroidered and crochet articles. Lace is usually worked on Gozo, a sister island but available in Malta if you don't fancy the ferry crossing. Of course, if you like wine or tasty sweetmeats you'll find plenty of things to buy!

A dog…or you can come to Miami and grab my little pain in the ass terrier (named after the above mentioned island) for FREE.

Well…I guess not for free…she's a pistol, but I do love her very much…how does $10 USD sound?

Books, books and more books.

Stephen C Spiteri has written several excellent books on the fortifications of Malta, for example "Fortresses of the Knights" and "British Fortifications: an illustrated guide to British Fortifications in Malta" a wonderful book if you like fortifications.

"The Guns and Gunners of Malta" by Denis Rollo

"British Colonial Architecture Malta 1800 – 1900" Malcolm Borg (great name)

"A Century of the Royal Navy at Malta" Bonnici and Cassar – lots of pictures of ships.
