While I was at my local library yesterday, I saw some new arrivals on a book cart behind the circulation desk. One of them kinda stunned me:

I had to laugh to myself, as it would appear (at least to me) usage of the English language seems to be deteriorating much faster these days that ever before. I had to look through it, and yes, the author does address the question of when to use an apostrophe.

I'll chip in a buck to get this for our dear Grammer Nazi. laugh

I would be hesitant to try to find fault with a "for Dummies" book. They know their target audience well. grin

There are some mistooks in the 'Blues Guitar for Dummies' book. :)

If you want to read an enjoyable little book that takes the punctuation impaired to task, try "Eats, Shoots and Leaves," by Lynn Truss.

I wonder if that book could be published in England.. TMP link

I've seen a T-shirt with the caption:

"I'm the Grammarian about whom your Mother warned you"

as opposed to all the others incorrectly phrased "…your Mother warned you about."

My wife publishes the Dummies books. I own an umbrella that says "for Dummies."

I'm a supporter of egalitarian linguistics. What good are rules if nobody follow them?

Hey, how can gamers object to the use of house rules?

"They know their target audience well."

People who know their limitations and don't take themselves to seriously?

"What good are rules if nobody follow them?"

Exactly the reason we need to put stocks and pillories back in the town square. Oh, and a dunking stool at the duck pond.

Can't hurt.

I'm chuckling at all the typos and grammatical errors in the posts so far.

Can't hurt.

It might if you drop it on your foot.
