Do you remember these? What I have decided to do is bring these back to life in one place. i will be updating these on my site periodically to eventually have the as many as I can get. If you have any and want to send them to me great! Do you remember these? I bought lots of stuff from these but never had the tank or submarine. Now, from reading the ad I really can't imagine what this thing would actually look like. It says the construction is of 200 test fibreboard and fits two people for $6.98 USD Lol
It has moving guns and MG. Lol

I never knew anyone who received those "toy soldiers" after ordering them. Did a quick Google search, and they *do* exist, but not in a form most of us probably thought when we were kids :) link |

Thanks for the link, Kayl. A great article. |

I had the footlocker set. link Boy was I surprised when they arrived! The footlocker was TINY (5-6" MAX). I did get a lot of use out of them, as they made perfect BB gun targets. I'd LOVE to see what the submarine & tank looked like in person! |

I had several of those set as a kid. The Roman flats wete my first. Then the revolution, civil war and knights. This would have been in the late 60's, early 70's. The best were a couple of sets we bought with green stamps. They were made of a hard brittle plastic and came painted. One were knights and v ikings the other was Vietnam! |

I still have the foot locker with the US troops but no enemy to fight. That sub is hilarious! Desperately need to see that tank! |

Are the collected and valuable today? |

Wow – great link thanks ! I was Soooooooooo jealous at the time, as we could get the comics in the UK, but couldn't get those figures. Now I feel a lot better ! |

I have some Sgt. Rock comics from the 50s and I think those ads were in there as well. Some of the other ads in those comics had the X-ray specs and other weirdness. Wyatt |

Lots of magic tricks and practical jokes. |

I loved looking at those ads and dearly wished I could have bought some of the really neat stuff, but being outside the US or Canada I was outa luck. I'm sure that saved me from buying lots of useless junk that looked nothing like the drawings. Even as an 8 year old I knew those sea monkeys wouldn't look like people and smoke pipes though! I REALLY wanted that submarine. Flintloque, thanks so much for the pic. After 40 years I have finally seen the real thing. I would have been so disappointed if I had managed to buy one as a kid. |

The submarine looks like a fairly cool little playset, from the photo. But I recall thinking the ad was for a real submarine, and would have also been disappointed. A few years ago, somebody tried to bring back the "Helen of Toy Company," but it appears to be defunct again. (I remember looking and being disappointed at the new price structure. Yowza, inflation had hit!) Here's a blog that mentions it, though the main web site appears to be gone: link |

And here's at least one thing the "NEW Helen of Toy Company" offered: link A clever approach to nostalgia. I like the dog tags. Too bad it's defunct. |

Man! I soooo wanted that foot locker full of army men, but that would've been considered "wasting money". Besides, it was probably feared that I would wind up like this guy: YouTube link
I certainly remember those old ads in the 'Archie' comic books I bought. Never did purchase anything from them, but they were cool to look at. Thanks for the memories, combatpainter! |

"Besides, it was probably feared that I would wind up like this guy:" Hasn't everyone here already wound up like that guy? |

I had a friend who bought both the navy set and the set of toy soldiers. We had a blast with both. |

Linked up to that site Saginaw mentioned. Funny seeing a pre-Kramer Michael Richards. Used to do a few things like that myself, though in a much more subdued manner. |

I was one of those poor saps who waited and never got my x-ray specs, off brand transformers, or hovercraft. I often wondered what most of that stuff actually looked like (if it even existed), thanks for the links. Here's a little more on the sub, though: link |

I ordered a set of soldiers similar to the footlocker ad and never got them either. :( When I read the thread title, I thought you meant ads with Spider-man defeating Doc Ock with Hostess Twinkies, or stopping a rampaging Hulk with a Zinger or fruit pie. |

I owned the roman, AWI and WWII sets. Played in the dirt in the backyard. |
