I loved OFP, and have ArmA. Now toying with getting into OFP2
anyone tried it? I have played the likes of Delta Force, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, etc, but I like the long, slow, realstic scenario style gaming of OFP (as opposed to the rapid fire arcade style of things like DF) |

That just shows you're not a true computer gamer ;-) (presumably that is too many when compared to FOW, FOG, DBM, DBA, DBR, etc?) |

Geoff, I think this is a game my wife wants to get – do you know if the combat is live action or is it turned based? We hate the latter – we were very disappointed with Final Odyssey (or was that Lost Odysset) for this reason. we were spoiled by Oblivion (my wife is replaying it here right now, actually! ) and it was always great fun to be able to sneak up on something and pepper it with arrows before it got close to you

:) . Too many that I don't have a clue about, because I'm not a hip computer gamer. Asteroids are more my speed. ;) |

To keep the Mad Monkey happy, Operation Flashpoint is a live action first person shooter, but unlike the arcade style of 'run and shoot' action of most of the Delta Force type of game, this requires you to be a bit tactical. The AI will use tactics to try and outflank you, and if you sit still and shoot will soon work out where you are. If you are used to the more arcade style of firing on the move you will probably find the ultra realism, vast distances and rapid death of Flashpoint and Armed Assault frustrating. The new Dragon Rising is even more realistic, but I'm just trying to decisw whether it is worth upgrading my pc to play this latest release. |

I've been playing the heck out of ARMA 2 online, on the SPARTA server. A good bunch of guys play, and it's very tactical. I always have a great time, and the players are about 50-50 Brits and Americans. They also don't tolerate people just jumping willy-nilly into vehicles and helos and zipping about and blowing up, which is good! I have yet to try out OFP2. Does it support online? I had heard that it only allowed 4 player P2P. Or was that ModWarfare 2

Sounds a bit like Battlefield 2, modern combat or its offshoots. So
big maps, high-tech toys and an AI that actually uses tactics? Sign me up! I'll second Darby's question about multi-player. |

Compared to the battlefield-type series, OFP is vast. In fact, the vast distances can be frustrating, when you find yourself left behind and have to walk a few kilometres to the next town because you missed the ride. But there is generally a nice camaraderie online, with people willing to make side-trips in helicopters to pick you up. Don't know what OPF2 plays like
that's why I was asking. According to Wiki, "The multiplayer numbers are 16 vs 16 on PC and 4 vs 4 with three bots (AI) per person on PS3 and Xbox 360." I know we have had over 40 up on ArmA |

I have OFP but I've only played the first couple of single-player missions; no multi-play yet. It's definitely different from any other shooter I've played. The wide-open spaces remind me somewhat of Battlefield 2, but the combat happens at much more realistic ranges. Honestly, I have a hard time even seeing the enemies behind cover 150 yards away, much less actually hitting them. Most of 'my' kills have been scored by my AI squad mates; I feel like I'm just along as an observer. I pretty much suck at shooters, so I tend to shy away from on-line play. |

which version of ofp are you on? It's worth making sure you have it fully patched (i think the top patch was about 1.9x but it's well worth checking as they tweaked the AI to be slightly less accurate, in particular how they detected you). I never really enjoyed the shooty-shooty deathmatch/CTF games, but online coop or the later CTI games are highly recommended. My main concern is that Codemasters have 'sold out' ofp to the games fraternity by making deathmatch and CTI very much the norm. |
